Marvin products are great, but they're not top of the line when it comes to efficiency or air/water tightness. Sunrise's patio door would outperform Marvin in these areas.

A good thermally-broken aluminum window will hold up better than vinyl, long-term. They will also provide you with narrower frames and maximum glass space. The downsides are higher U-Values and cost.

Andersen’s 100 series is not a low-profile window, but it’s a good product.
Marvin’s Essential is the best of the bunch by a wide margin, if it’s in the budget.
Sunrise has dealers in the Austin area, I believe. You might try contacting them as they make a nice vinyl window.

Is the exterior cladding siding, brick, rock or stucco?

NT’s Presidential, Energy Master or Executive lines - any of them will be better than what you’ve seen so far. I’d get two quotes from different contractors. Keep in mind, this is not a premium product, it’s a mid-grade IMO.

Of course I would avoid RBA, and I’m not a fan of Thermal Windows or Conservation Construction either either. I’ve heard good things about Brennon’s, although I can’t vouch for them personally. I’m not a fan of thick vinyl windows either, but they have to be fairly beefy if you want them to endure. Thin framed vinyl windows are flimsy and will warp and bow in the heat in no time. Are the Angie’s List negative reviews on the NT Presidential window specifically, or are they on the contractor who sold and installed the window to the homeowner? Don Young’s vinyl is pretty equal with Burris to my mind. Sunrise makes one of the nicest casements in the industry. Hopefully you can get a quote on those.

I’ve sold both and prefer the Don Young for several reasons.

1. Don Young has always provided great service for me.

2. Don Young’s frame seems a bit stronger.

3. The sash latching system on NT is an eyesore.

I think NT makes a decent mid-grade window. You might get another quote, just to make sure the pricing is fair.
