Re: Which of these three windows to choose?

The Pella 250 is lower in performance Such as U-value, DP ratings , air infiltration, I believe it has a pocket sill, which is not desirable. This is a window available to anyone and a dealer focused on quality Would not choose this as there go to quality product. This product would not break the to...

Re: Okna 700 Casement Windows Issues

Have you tried putting a level on the windows or measuring if they are square?

Re: Air infiltration, PG and DP rating question.

The test is standardized, the window size not so much. Personally I would prefer the companies to show the actual and current test results . Don’t need pictures of soda cans or balloons. Is there anything stopping a manufacturer from putting the actual air number on the NFRC sticker? Air testing / ...

Re: Air infiltration, PG and DP rating question.

My theory is that smaller boutique companies
Exploited this as a sales tool. Until the testing is more standardized and more clear cut It is just that.
The way it is now no consumer can figure this out on their own with actual data.

Re: Waiver for NT Twinsulator U-Factor?

My point with Milgard was to show that an aluminum window can achieve lower u-values with a dual pane .
The state energy code appears to be 0.35 for u-value. I don’t know if there are any local codes that supersede it.
Milgard left the Texas market in 2020.

Re: Waiver for NT Twinsulator U-Factor?

The Milgard makes code in dual pane with a VLT of .57.
I got triples in my house and even though the sun is not as big here as it is in Texas I find it plenty bright in here.
My stove is gas , mower is a 7’ diesel, and I mix oil in the gas on my motorcycles.
We all like choices.

Re: Waiver for NT Twinsulator U-Factor?

Looks like you may be able to get there single hung in triple pane that meet code. Milgard has one that meets code. I get the big brother angle but the minimum code is fairly easy to meet. At some point these companies should update their products.

Re: Air infiltration, PG and DP rating question.

I’d say both. A window can have a high DP/PG rating and high air infiltration rating.

Re: WINDOWS ARRIVED/THE PROCESS BEGINS

Union scale is about $65 per hour for a carpenter here. Once you figure in operating cost and profit margins one with common sense will understand these “huge” mark ups. As with any business there is money to be made. One of the big things with window installs is the aluminum work, and it will be in...

Re: ProVia vs Ideal vs Okna 400/500/800 in LI

That is really good/ low pricing, about a decade behind.
I have heard good things about the the Ideal, and if true that price is very low. I’d step up to the Okna 500 and even though the 800 seems much higher the price is very low. Maybe change the glass package on the Ideal to a higher SHGC.

Re: Okna 800 vs SoftLite Elements vs GreatLakes ComfortSmart

If you go with the Okna, I think there. Sunseal glass pack would be better suited to your climate. Part of the cost difference is because you are not comparing similar glass packs. That Element glass pack is pretty damn good and Okna does not really have one that compares for your area that I see, n...

Re: Okna 800 vs SoftLite Elements vs GreatLakes ComfortSmart

At the same price either of those 2 are great.
The Soft-Lite is quoted with a glass pack that is better for your area imo.
