Re: Quote in Rhode Island

I also would opt for the SL LS.
I would ask why a $500 premium for the 2 CA?

Re: Tri-State Window Factory vs. Okna

I would suggest that you get a quote for the 500DX as the Okna/Highmark DH option.

In my market 6 white double hungs, no grids, half screens, standard install would be $4000.

Re: Recommendations for modern style picture windows in Austin, TX?

Yep your energy code blocks some nice options. With the Marvin in the new Contemporary line, it is aluminum and fiberglass, you may be able to go to a twin PW instead of a triple. Another low profile frame that comes to mind is clad frame support product from Pella, it is a direct set PW, extruded a...

Re: Recommendations for modern style picture windows in Austin, TX?

So I had to check through the quote software. Marvin will do the size in a direct glazed rectangle, you will need tempered glass. The the Essential line you have several chooses for exterior color, but only black or white for the interior. Marvin also has a new contemporary line that may have more a...

Re: Install Method

What has the 6th company proposed.? We often do similar to what you mentioned, most replacement windows are 3 1/4" thick. I think there are several things to doing this well. Tight measurements: I allow 1/16 to 1/8" of paly in the width, 1/4" in the height, this way the window can be squared up. We ...

Re: Wood window replacements

I was guessing that the sash are roll formed and only the frame was extruded. It was one of the ways Kolbe tried to under price Marvin 20 years ago.
You can do the Elevate in both full frame or insert style.

Re: Wood window replacements

Aluminum clad can be thin or thick. Thicker is referred to as extruded. If that is what you want then that is what you have to spec. Lifestyles is not extruded aluminum, Reserved is. I like the Marvin Elevate with the fiberglass exterior. I also like the AW 400 Woodwright, A series, and E series. Wo...

Re: Simonton, Alsides or local?

I must be missing something in the specs. Five is just the other side of low volume, but unless there are other agg factors. In My neck of the woods I would be at $4000. max for SL520DX with full screen, ezglide could add $100 each, but not required. Maybe see if you can find another Okna/Highmark d...

Re: Best Wood-Aluminum clad window/ sliding door for high rise?

SP is not a dedicated window company, is sold through big box stores in my market.

WS Has a history of rot and seal failure. See it here frequently. 15 years ago or more one of my primary vendors saw the same thing I did and broke off of WS.

Re: Help choosing double hung window replacements

You are looking at very good products.
I like the Okna 800DX. Any of the Oknas are going to be hard to beat on air tightness, no drafts.
Where are you located?

If you do a full frame replacement you will negate any glass loss. But your price will increase by $4K.

Re: Best Wood-Aluminum clad window/ sliding door for high rise?

Obviously you have to make sure the units are rated for those heights.
I would think that the pricing among the big three for similar product will be close. I would look at AW E series.
I am not a WS or SP fan.

SL did do some distribution to some siding and roofing supply yards.
Call around or try SL to see if they have a distributor in the area.
