Re: Window comparisons

Leaving the trim up and backing-butting the new units into the trim is possible and as Todd mentioned is a much higher level of expertise. You have to reverse engineer measurments to the ID of the interior casing. Your existing most likely have brick moulding or flat casing that overlaps-extends pas...

Re: Softlite vs Okna vs Provia Windows

TT depend on the fabricator which is regional. If you have a good fabricator and know how to spec the product correctly it is a very good system. Then of course there is the install. Doors are harder to install than windows. Most subs hate doors because of the low pay for a door when they can make t...

Re: Coil trim?

So what does your contract say about the hail proof nature of this new wiz bang stuff? It is not new or wiz bang. Unfortunately there was a comunication error on both the buyers and sellers part. Being firction fit and caulked properly will withstand huricanes. Notice I said properly. I have some co...

Re: Replacement Window Research

Besides the actual product and the install/installer there is the current status of the MFG.
Right now I would stay away from Sunrise, IMHO.

Re: Additional Window Brand Options

I would expect that you will have to pay what I refer to as a low volume premium.
I would suggest you stick with the Okna525DX 2 section slider.
You need to pull the trigger and then wait 3 months.

Re: Additional Window Brand Options

Well, Brando shared two with you, that should be enough.
Why don't you tell us what your qualifiers are? cost, energy efficiency , looks, accessibility, durability. At what levels for each, and do you determine?

Is the project a flip, your home, or a long term investment?

Re: Vinyl Window Colors

" paranoia gone a bit to far", self diagnose is a good thing.
But to confirm, yes.
Vinyl is easier to chip the paint off of, Marvins fiberglass is one great finish.

Re: Inserts or Full Replacement

Either will work. There are pluses and minus to both methods. For many the budget is crucial: lets say a high performance white vinyl insert replacement window is $800 supplied and installed. The same window specs in a full frame install adds $300 per window with standard primed only casing. If that...

Re: Replacement Window Research

just their schtick? YES Premium high performance vinyl will last as long as Marvin. The air tightness of the Okna or Sunrise is objectively so superior to the M DH that you can not believe it. I told you to not meet with Marvin and Pella, to save yourself the time and pain of dealing with them. Plea...

Re: Replacement Window Research

4b. Sunrise Restorations - $15,940 (saying I can possibly get an upgrade for the normal Sunrise price) Same features as normal Okna 600 came back at $16k but that only includes half screens where do you get $2k difference? Nonmetallic and stainless steel are both warm edge spacers. In the current si...

From previous calculations, I find normal VG loss to be one square foot per window for insert installs.

Re: Replacement Window Research

The Sunrise or Okna options are going to be the best performers of that group.
Save yourself the pain and time of meeting with RBA and Pella. They will not be a best choice anyway.
