Re: Name of group of windows that fits between studs? No header?

If you had the narrowest frame you would end up with 11" VG. Not very marketable.
You can direct glaze it your self and maybe end up with 13" VG. Still tiny and no market.

Re: Install Question for Possible Wood Rot & Carpenter Ants

Though an extreme example, I once was removing a large egg crate window, Carpenter ants starting pouring out. I had to reframe the whole wall. That has only happened once in my 46 years installing. I started when I was 2.

Re: Install Question for Possible Wood Rot & Carpenter Ants

Interesting this post has 16 views, no replies. I will make it short and sweet. Use the less than mid tier 5500. Change the glazing specs if you like. One benefit of this choice is consistency. Use your previous installer. If not available ID 2 Simonton distributors and ask the managers who they sug...

Does Randy from Ultra Windows do anything in Austin?
If so he would be my choice.

It hardly matters what the other best high performance vinyl windows are if they are not available in your market.

Vytex HP Potomac
Soft-Lite Elements

Also I am another fan of Randy.

Re: Anderson 200s as replacement windows?

You can use a "new construction" window as an insert and an insert window as a new construction.
You just need to know what you are doing.

Re: Window manufactures and distributors who sell to DIY'ers?

You can either find a dealer that will sell to you DIY or a large distributor like ABC supply that has access to some of the best options we have mentioned.
Okna, you will only be able to get through a dealer willing to sell DIY, not hardly any of them around.

Re: Air infiltration, PG and DP rating question.

Rick, by top windows what are you including?
Clearly Pella, Marvin or AW any series, do not have a window .05 or less in DH.
We sell and install all three to my "wood snobs", they are made aware of the AL issue.

Re: Waiver for NT Twinsulator U-Factor?

"Permits for window replacement in Texas are a revenue generator (permit purchase + increased property tax value) and a way for bureaucrats to exercise control over what homeowners do with their own homes."

I agree, unless it is a clear safety issue, butt out.

Option 2.
For one reason: if you ever had to cut it out it would be easier.
