Guy Just read your post. I have been an employee in this industry and a sub-contractor, going back on others jobs, for mis-measured windows, service, etc. I have about flipped out. Several installers in this industry have no pride, I've gone to jobs where the metal misses touching the window by a 1/...

FenEx I have not intentionally pursued your posts to jab at you. I read these threads and if I have any firsthand knowledge of products or installation practices, I'll voice my opinion. Which comes from eight years of installation, certifications, and my research in this field. I don't claim to know...

Guy I would say in your area, I too would go to all extremes to make sure there was no cold or air infiltratring your installed windows. Temps. like -20, make me shiver just thinking about it. And I know the pride you take in your work with your name on it and your going to make sure it performs. I ...

On second story windows or hard to reach ones, I like to do the window from the interior. I'll remove the interior trim, remove the window, set in the new unit, secure it to the opening, then remove the sash, and hang out of the opening to wrap. With pre wrapping that window is not always going to s...

Sounds like the windows came with a foam wrap which is pretty standard nowadays. This should take care of your insulating needs on the sides and head. But the sill will still need to be insulated. Also where the foam wrap goes up the sides of your new windows and across the head, it leaves the top c...

Man guys, I hate to say this but I've been in the business going on eight years, and I've never even thought twice about the dangers from lead paint. I know I've had to replace hundreds if not thousands of windows with pre 1978 paint on the inside trim, blindstop, parting bead stop, etc. I've never ...

The ultramaxx in my opinion is a good window, solid frames, descent u values, I think for the 2-lite sliders about .28 or so. But this window is the same window as Window worlds premium window 6000 series, and there it would run you around $325 a window plus their capping charge at 35 -40 bucks. And...

Angela, I think it would be fine to have Home Depot install them, but what I would do is check out their previous jobs first. Ask for a list of jobs recently done and go out and look at those jobs, if you're happy with the work, find out which crew did it and have it in writing on the contract that'...

Angela, With anderson casements probably installed in the early 70's, rot is not all that unusual, I've been replacing hundreds in the past several years. In this situation I definately wouldn't go with a retrofit install, meaning they leave in the existing jambs. Partly because of the rot, but most...

D clark, I don't think you could go wrong with the kensington, probably the hutington for the features youre describing. I personally have never seen a problem with the solar heat film, but if a problem occurs your lifetime warranty would cover it. I beleive with the sc75 heat film your looking at a...
