Re: Replacing windows in Chicago area - Brand & Installer reviews

Great installers generally want to sell and install great windows. Did you try to search out dealers of the other products that I mentioned?

Re: Replacing windows in Chicago area - Brand & Installer reviews

Restorations is nice as you know, as is the Softlite Elements, Okna, Starmark, and upper offerings from Polaris among others. The KHPP has some nice numbers, but if you are worried about changes in management at your Restorations dealer, beware that this product has been passed around like nobody's ...

Re: One more question

joestein, you had GREAT options at fair prices in your other thread! Don't overthink this, and don't be tricked by what will probably be a really low price from this vendor. Why do I say that? Because no good window company that does both quality and volume will offer so many options, and with most ...

Re: Okna 500, 800 vs Sunrise Restoration

Good info above. On the Okna options, I'd drop the 500 given the small price jump to the 800 which is much better. On the Sunrise option, as WoW stated, you don't want that surface 4 coating most times when you are in a region that is considered cold. While its nice that it lowers the U value substa...

Re: Okna 800 lift rail -- how far does it stick out?

The next time I see the 800 handles interfere with window treatments where they did not before will be the first. As the other pros have stated, they don't project any farther than a typical vinyl lift rail or a lift rail on a wood window. The only thing that could causing an issue is if the new win...

Re: Okna 500/600/800 + Elegante

1) That's some good pricing on Okna, particularly the door. Pretty low actually on that unit. 2) The 600 is a better window than the 500. The .01 in u value is pretty negligible but the structural advantage of the 600 is not. That slight drop is only due to the fact that foam is pulled out of the me...

+1. Pricing is fine, but you may want to check out some other product options based on quality and performance.

Re: Starmark vs OKNA vs Soft-lite

+1. First of all, nice job in narrowing your search to good choices. Secondly, that price is a STEAL for the Starmark composite which is a phenomenal window when you combine the looks and performance. I'd take that choice in a heartbeat. The other choices are very good, but that is really a great pr...

Re: Majestic vs Okna 800

I agree with the other pros. The 800 is measurably better. On product alone, another hundred or more per window would be justified in my opinion. I say product alone because the installation details and reputation of the company involved should be weighted as well. That could widen or tighten the an...

Re: KHPP Genesis vs NT Traditions vs Burris Tectview AC

paging Randy... He's the authority down there in TX. My input would be that KHPP makes a nice window, although the company is a bit shaky for my taste. Your other choices are regional so Randy will have to comment on those. Foam fill is generally beneficial, although you could look at the effect tha...

Re: recommendations for fixing leaky replacement window?

Looks like they caulked The sash to the mull and maybe covered weep holes? Did they also caulk the glass to sash, can’t quite tell. The white caulk between the frame and brick looks horrible. I was going to say the same about the white caulk. We can't fully diagnose this from a computer screen, but...

+1.
Likely an issue with flashing over the unit or at the mull interface, but pics would definitely help.

Re: Soft-Lite Elements vs. Renewal by Anderson

The Elements is a slam dunk here if that is the final two. Much greater difference in quality than the numbers would lead you to believe, and I suspect there will be a similar discrepancy in the install company. Search the site for thoughts on Zen, there is not much love lost for them from pros in t...
