Re: Full Window Replacement Cost
The price is surprisingly reasonable, but the product leaves a bit to be desired in terms of performance IMO. As Rickenz alluded to, product availability can be regional, but I suspect that you'd have access to at least some of the top performers that are pretty universally recommended : Okna, Softl...

Re: United 200 series comparable to OKNA 500 or 800 series
I'd get away from looking at window and installation costs separately as most professional companies are going to offer a combined price. To answer your questions: 1) Composite and Vinyl have different properties, and composites in and of themselves have several variations of material content. In th...

Re: Full Replacement Windows, La Crosse WI
We had an offer of just over $3000 per window for full tear outs including one bay window. Likely we'll seek more estimates. Adding a bay in there is going to skew the "per window" number considerably. You are on the right track though in getting another quote or two, that will be the bes...

Re: Full Replacement Windows, La Crosse WI
Have you contacted Clear Choice in Holmen? Steve Johnson runs a good operation over there, I'd definitely recommend them. Secondly, I'd agree with WoW that the Okna 600 is the easy winner of those choices and I'd upgrade to triple pane. It's needed for the new Energy Star tax credit in our neck of t...

Re: NT Traditions - install without insulation?
Burris Tectview AC - $24K NT Traditions - $35K (will get one more quote on the Presidential line, but do prefer the minor upgrades the Traditions dealer gets) Anlin Del Mar - $45K (ruled out) Sunrise is now MI Windows which has pretty bad reviews in my area; Okna is not available to my knowledge. T...

Re: Replace or Not Replace 1980’s Pella windows
Betsey, regarding service life, I like to break windows into four categories based on my experience over the years: 1) " Throw away windows" . These are generally falling apart in 10 years or so give or take, and are commonly referred to as "builder grade" and used in new constru...

Re: Seeking guidance on mixed replacement
Okna 800 quote came in only a grand and change higher than climate solutions for the 10 windows, seems like a no-brainer. I do wish I could go with the other installer, much closer and recommended by others, but they don't carry any of those top vinyl brands. Between Okna 800 and comparable Sunrise...

Re: Polaris Supreme vs Xl Ultimate
I don't keep up on the specifics of those glass options, what is the CR (condensation resistance) of each? In your area you'll want to be mindful of that rating and avoid a surface 4 low e coating that knocks that down substantially. Lastly, do consider that the new Energy Star (most efficient) tax ...

Re: Seeking guidance on mixed replacement
I'll add that I should be getting a Okna quote today. Now you are on the right track... Also consider Softlite (Elements, Elite), Sunrise (whatever their top lines are called these days), and a couple others. You probably have access to the Starmark composite as well which is a phenomenal window. T...

Re: Scuffed and scratched New vinyl windows
You are getting the runaround here, and none of that really matters. There is no real discretion here unless it is being exercised to go above and beyond standards. If this was to rise to the level of legal action, the ASTM standards would be referenced unless the manufacturer states something else ...

Re: Okna 1800 worth double Provia Endure with Triple-pane?
Sunrise should be on your list, it's a much better window. There have been concerns about how all of that corporate change over would impact things, but to date the answer seems to be nada. I think its far more likely for Provia to axe or make wholesale changes to their window line (like they have w...

Re: Scuffed and scratched New vinyl windows
There is a standard on this and it's not based on opinion. Search ASTM C1036-16, ASTM C1376-15, ASTM C1172-14, ASTM C1048-12 and ASTM E2190. Its hard to tell whether or not your meet that standard or not as they are zoomed in pretty tight. I can say that many scratches and scuffs on both glass and v...

Re: Okna 1800 worth double Provia Endure with Triple-pane?
Where are you located? Based on the regions that these two products are available, I suspect that it may be a cooler climate in which case the numerically higher SHGC is better under normal circumstances. - What is the CR (condensation resistance) rating on both options? - Do you know the air leakag...

Re: Sash packs
+1. If that manufacturer is still around you may be able to find something, but if not, your options would be sash kits, replacement windows, or custom built sash replacements which would probably cost more than a new window. You'd have to find a local shop that could produce the latter.

Good Afternoon! I am reaching out to see what the outcome was for this Cascade window issue? We are in an AZ Toll Brothers home where our windows have been warping from the first few months we moved in. Cascade is just about the WORST at ever responding to any calls/emails regarding the issue, and ...
