Another vote for Marvins and Kolbe for a wood interior.

If you have one coming that would complete the trifecta IMO, as those are arguably the three top products on the market -- or at least three of the top tier of products.

Re: replacement casement window options?

I received a bid for Sunrise restoration windows today for $22,721 and a bid from Softlite for $21,340 Two very good window options there and as WoW alluded to, the variety of quotes that you have received would seem to indicate that the price looks about right. In a "product only vacuum"...

Re: replacement casement window options?

Another question I have is about the ratings. I've read where the ratings on like the fiberglass Marvin windows is on a large size window and the vinyl windows ( for some companies) is measure from one that's 12"x12". Is that true? Also read where the "good " ratings on a new vi...

Re: replacement casement window options?

I had two different companies quote the same Provia Endure triple pane windows the same spec and all....$35,000 from one company and $23,000 from another. You really need to watch out these days...it's ridiculous how much different bids are on the same windows from different companies these days. A...

Re: Expectation vs. Reality

Great observations from the other pros, I agree. - Verify that you did get the correct glass - Were the old windows casements? If so, the seal may have been decent even if the windows were poor quality and needed to be replaced anyway. In my experience that is the biggest reason that folks hear less...

Re: replacement windows

"Beat everything" in what way? Leaking air? Failing prematurely? Poor service after install?... You get the picture.

The Restorations option is the best that you have so far, especially if they happen to be casements.

Re: Sealant to match mortar or windows?

I can't argue with DM, however I've been burned too many times by "discerning" customers to not go with a programmed match. The only way to do so is to match to the new trim. This is by far the most common way to do it, at least in my area. While a mortar match may look nicer if everything...

Re: Pocket window solutions?

Your best bet will be to get replacement windows in that case Auvie. The mulls can stay in, although you'll lose a lot of glass in doing that. Yes, you could install a bunch of deadlites (fixed sashes) from another company, but : 1) As WN stated you would need someone extraordinarily competent to co...

Re: Pocket window solutions?

There is no reason that a full frame tear out would be needed on these. You either have an uninformed point of contact, or that location simply chooses to offer only full tear outs. If all else is in good shape and you like the windows, WN's recommendation of replacing the sashes is certainly valid....

Re: U Values and SHGC values for replacement windows

The Legance was made by Thermal/Thermal Industries which is out of business. I'd expect a u value on your windows and sliding door(s) to be something around .28-30 for your area in 2015, assuming that they are double pane and not. triple pane.

Re: Provia vs. Seaway

Thank you, HomeSealed. First & foremost three of the existing windows are quite large (68 x 44) making them extremely difficult to remove for cleaning. The tracks on these things are dirt and debris magnets. I clean them frequently, but they always look dirty to me. They can also be stubborn wh...

Re: Provia vs. Seaway

To determine if newer sliders would resolve the issues that you have with the current units, we need to know what it is that you don't like about them. You mentioned the cleaning aspect, and short of tilt and slide units which are not recommended, that part likely won't be much of an improvement for...

Re: Provia vs. Seaway

You could certainly do worse than either of these options rljerome, the real issue is that these second tier (maybe lower depending who you ask) windows are often sold at a top tier price. Not sure of your location, but these products are often sold in markets that also have access to top performers...

Re: Replacement Quotes - Recommendations

The Simonton is the bottom window in this comparison, but that option would be a hard pass based more on the price than the product. He may have some current references that are good, but it's literally impossible that he will be in business for much longer at a price like that. Fine price for 2012,...
