Re: Feedback - Softlite vs Okna quotes
I'd agree with the other sentiments in that the installation difference will more than make up for that price difference. Do you need a full frame install? Hard to say without seeing the job. It's definitely more comprehensive though. I know that Zen bids jobs site unseen, essentially taking a cooki...

Re: IWC or Milgard aluminum
Good advice above. Where are you located? Milgard is only available out west these days, is it fair to say that you are in a moderate to warm climate? That would be the only situation where aluminum would be recommended, as it is very conductive (even when thermally broken), so use in cold areas is ...

Re: Aluminum capping over a vynal window.
Just to clarify, the concept of the way that it is done is correct, however the execution really isn't. It's hard to tell from the pics, but I question if there are open gaps between the pieces that they used the caulk in... I hear ya on the low bid, thing, but this is something that needs attention.

Re: Aluminum capping over a vynal window.
The "lobster tail" as we call it around here is pretty standard. While there are a couple of other ways to accomplish this, this way is probably the best from a technical standpoint IMO --- * when done correctly *. There are other ways that are arguably more attractive, but ultimately rely...

Re: Grid and Double Window Pane Replacement
I'd recommend drastically reducing the possibility of getting glass that doesn't fit by having a local company come out and quote this for you. They'll be able to dial in the measurements, grids, etc. Saving a few bucks is great in theory, but there are a lot of things to get wrong here for someone ...

Re: Milgard Windows: Am I being too picky?
Pics would help... although as WoW alluded to, big difference here between scuffs and scratches in an area of the product that will be seen after install vs hidden.

Re: AI on Window Nation's Addison?
Depending on the option content and install details, that price is solid at worst, possibly even pretty low for that product. If the company offering it is well established with a good reputation, that looks like a choice that will be hard to beat.

Re: basement window replacement
Good. It should. Move on.
Ultimately removing the steel frame would be ideal, but it's not going to be worth the cost (if offered by someone qualified). Too much work, too much risk of damage, etc.

Re: Norandex 3000 v Wincore 5400 v Midway EnviroSealed
Just a suggestion:
Much like a bad product may indicate the quality of the provider, an excellent one can do the same. Look for dealers of Okna, Softlite, and Sunrise in your area as a good head start.

Re: Norandex 3000 v Wincore 5400 v Midway EnviroSealed
Simonton is owned by Plygem. Norandex is a private label "brand" owned by ABC supply that they happen to put on that window among other products. At the end of the day, I'd keep looking and check out some of the better products that you see recommended here. Without regard to the stories g...

Re: Is there room for negotiation with replacement windows?
Probably not the answer you want to hear but.... It depends . In most cases there is some negotiation, however if the rep gave you a price in the home and another with a promo price and/or some type of extra discount, its also possible that he or she exhausted what they can do. In a nutshell, negoti...

Re: Okna Starmark vs Andersen 100/400 vs Marvin Essentials vs Interstate 9800
All options are down to the rough opening and are windows with nail fins. There's a lot of rot, so it has to be a full tear out with all new wood. Many of the sills are basically disintegrating. The 28,000 figure includes the 3,000 extra labor cost. I don't plan on getting wood interior on the wind...

Re: Okna Starmark vs Andersen 100/400 vs Marvin Essentials vs Interstate 9800
My first thought is that "full frame" is a very broad term that spans a range of installation quality starting below pocket replacements, and ends significantly better than the original new construction installation. I'd look for each option that you are seriously considering to give you (...

Re: Joyce Trinity vs Sunrise Vanguard V3000 vs Softlite Imperial Elite triple pane
The Sunrise and Imperial Elite are both nice products. I'd agree with the other sentiments regarding the dealers, it sounds like the triple pane upgrade on the Sunrise makes that compelling. Pretty aggressive pricing for 2023 across the board, you definitely don't have to worry that you are paying t...
