I had the PAL locks on the windows I had installed last Spring. They sure looked like a good idea, espcially with my children. However, they gave us all sorts of problems. When the windows did close properly the seal was as good as with the CAM locks. The PAL locks just did not close properly over 5...

Nuview, It would seem to me that you could improve your service and customer confidence levels by simply having better communications with them. I had a similar problem with the company that installed my Schuco windows. The only time they called me was to make an appointment (usually only a short ti...

DavinCincy, I have had my new Schuco windows in now for about 6 months and they are good windows. However, I think I would have been just as happy with windows rated as middle of the road versus one of the best. What I am trying to say is if I had to do it over again I would focus more on the instal...

Dave, My recommendation would be to find a good installer and then get a middle of the road window within your price range. I opted for the Schuco windows at the begining of this year and the windows are great but I had significant problems with the installation and was never really happy with the j...

There is a company called Windows Plus that services the DC metro area. Their web page is at: http://www.windowspls.com/index.cfm I did not go with this company myself but was very impressed with their product, their sales ethics, and overall goodness. I just got a better deal on the Schuco windows....

I saw another post by (I think) FenEx concerning energy audits and a reference to either www.bpi.org or www.energystar.gov. I followed the bpi reference through and went through their web pate. In the DC metro area there were no listings for any certified BPI contractors. However, I sent an email to...

Electric Bills Higher Rather than Lower

We had Schuco windows installed in our Townhouse a few months ago. The last month's bill was extremely high, even taking into account that it was hotter than usual. It was the highest single monthly bill we have ever received. I was told that we could expect at least a 20% reduction (different in el...

FenEx, Congratulations on your new (?) adventures. From the description posted, it seems like a really, really good idea and out ahead. I believe this is a very good idea and wish we had had this type of service available to us in our area. You provided wonderful help in the past and know whoever us...

I'm having a similar problem although we did not have new siding put on the house. We had all our dh windows replaced with Schuco windows and the last two months of electrical bills have been MUCH HIGHER than anything we've experienced in the past, even taking into account the above average heat wav...

nmmmm, We are in NoVA and recently had our windows/basement door done. I see from your post that you have two doors and some big windows. From my experience, we got pretty much the same quote on windows no matter the size but having all big ones may make the price a bit higher that what we got. I al...

amore125,

I know this isn't the answer but I was told if you use Lemon Pledge over the vinyl it will make it glide a bit easier. Don't know if that will help you enough but it might be worth a try.

Badguy - The 'design' problems I was referring to mostly related to the window locks. I agree with your experience on the PAL locks. When we went to the CAM (manual) locks things worked so much better. The other problem with the locks and windows seem to be related to the weatherstripping. The Schuc...

I've promised to put out a report upon the completion of my windows installation. I've put it off for a little bit to ensure all the work was completed, as best as can be done. So, here is my report. Sorry for how long it is but I promised FenEx a complete report. To recap, I went with a company cal...

WIWindow, I need to jump in this exchange from the customer perspective and recent experience. I had three companies come and provide a quote for my windows/sliding door. All came in with about the same cost. They all proposed middle to lower-middle quality windows for about $700 per hole. Then I ha...

P - I had some new windows just put in and for what I did was start looking at the companies rated in Washington Checkbook as best quality and fairest price. Working from there, and in conjunction with some of the experts on this site, I wound up with an out of state window installer who did Schuco ...
