Earwax:
Thanks for your help! I'm a little leary of anything related to Jeld-Wenn based on some of the posts I've read. Anyone else like to give me any idea of Seasonshield's quality?

Seasonshield
Lowe's hardware is selling a hurricane (Dade County rated) window through a company called Seasonshield out of Gainesville, Ga. The price they quoted me for an insulated 36 X 48 unit was less than $500, which is less than half of what everyone else has quoted me. Is this outfit reputable? I believe ...

Hmmm....built like a tank. I like that. Based on Fenex and Bill's responses, I'll stay away from Silver Line but take a hard look at Simonton and high end Pella. Meeting Dade county protocols IS important to me. I'll research the hurricane rated windows for both companies. A curiosity question: shou...

Thanks for both replies. The one contractor (out of three) who showed up at the appointed time yesterday said he recommended Silver Line but also used Simonton, so I'll look into the latter as a good choice. Thanks, Window4u. Windowrep, I've never heard of Stanek, but I can research and appreciate t...

OK, I've been going nuts trying to figure out which windows to put in my house, and part of the reason is that every time I ask about a specific product, according to many on this web site it's garbage! I live in Florida. I don't know if it's because we have mild weather, or we do alot of new constr...

Whoa, FenEx, tell me what you really think! Quit holding back like that. Seriously, thanks for the feedback. This is why I love this sight...the real story, not the hype. OK, the other windows he mentioned he might use were Simonton. Any opinions on that? I'm looking for hurricane rated laminated in...

Silver Line Windows
Does anyone have an opinion on this company? The contractor I just had out would like to use them because they've been in business a long time, they have good logistics for our area, and they have a lifetime warranty. Frankly, warranties don't impress me. the best one is the one you don't have to us...

Guy- just to let you know, Champion does not offer windows in Fla. Gilkey seemed like the highest quality. If anyone's heard different please say so. All of their contact list is in the Cincinatti area, though. Simonton and Windsor will be worth a closer look, while the web sites for Republic and Go...

Thanks for both of your inciteful replies. J Scott, you are correct that Milgard does not operate in Fla., however, your idea to simply install a second window in the same opening is a good one, especially in view of the fact that my current windows are fine. There is an outfit called Soundproof gla...

sound proof windows
I am interested in replacement windows that provide sound deadening. I have read enough to understand that STC ratings are the industry standard for measuring the sound abatement qualities of windows, and that this is acheived mostly via a large air gap between the outer and inner panes on insulated...
