Re: Replacing windows on a brick home

If you have interior casing and not drywall returns, remove the casing to expose the RO. You can then measure and order the windows. You would then only have to remove the windows once and be able to replace any rotted wood before installing the new windows.

Re: Need two new windows to match existing

Unlikely that it is a Moss window considering your location. They distribute mostly in the southeast and mid-atlantic regions of the country. I am not sure whose design they fabricate but you may find another fabricator closer to you.

Re: Need two new windows to match existing

Being that they are relatively new windows there is a good chance that you could get an exact match. Maybe you could post some pictures and we might be able to help identify them.

Re: Polar Seal

Most manufacturers that use a pocket sill design do so due to cost. They can use the same frame extrusion for head, jamb, and sill for both DH and horizontal sliders. The same sash materilal can also be used for both. Extrusion dies are very expensive due their complexity. Inventories are reduced and...

Re: Norco window repair

Would like to know what you find out. Just purchased a home built in 2004 with NORCO Windows - the caulking inside the sealed panes on most had 'melted' and pooled in the bottom of the glass and several seals have failed. I located the current warranty from JELD-WEN but it appears to only apply to ...

Re: gorell replacement

Assuming that the glass was being replaced due to seal failure, normally the glass unit would be sent without the mainframe of the window. They are shipped with some sort of cardboard, foam, or other material to protect the glass. Because of the size of your window the manufacturer may have felt is w...

Re: Help with Replacement Windows

Western Pa./Pittsburgh you should have more companies and window choices than you could imagine. Check with friends, relatives, and neighbors who have had their windows replaced. They are your best source of referrals to companies who do good work.

Re: Window World Vs. Window Depot

The WW franchise that is in my area offers the $189 window installed only in a basic wood sash out insert from the inside by removing the inside stop and leaving the outside stop intact. Reapplying the inside stop and sealing both the inside and outside with caulk. Certainly the most basic of instal...

Re: Window World Vs. Window Depot

I am not a fan of Window World but would not consider their advertising to be bait and switch. They actually do have a $189 window where as bait and switch would be advertising a $189 window which does not exist. Their advertising is geared to what catches peoples attention and gets them to call and...

Re: patio door caulking

Do you actually feel any air infiltration? As others have said, there may be a dust block missing. I think the dust you are finding may be a normal condition that occurs in all sliding patio doors with a pocket frame design. Dust can collect under the moving panel, and as you said, during stronger w...

Re: Capital Windows

MI/Capital are probably the easiest windows to reglaze that I have come across. They use a foam glazing tape that does not have an adhesive back so the glass will come out easily. The replacement glass will come with new tape applied to the glass unit. I would suggest renting a glass suction cup or ...

Re: Harvey agaist American Jewel Windows

Single vent casement would be the way to go. 2 lite slider in that size would be too narrow IMO.
Sliders work best when the width is greater than the height. DH is also a possibility.

Re: New Construction Windows suggestion

The AC 3900 is a double hung if I am not mistaken. The AC 2900 is a single hung. I would opt for the Simonton either way vs. trying to save a few dollars. Just a much better window. Silverline is known for poor quality at a low price. Their are plenty of good windows available through smaller buildi...

Re: what could the problem be?

I agree with WoW, that temperature differential does not seem that out of the ordinary. What was the outside temperature when you took the readings? The area around the window is naturally going to feel cooler than more to the center part of the room. The windows are (no matter how good) the weak li...
