Re: How to test thermal and solar heat transfer

Thanks for the replies. I guess I asked the question in the wrong way. What I want to do is look at the specs for the windows and then do a "home test" to determine if they are actually anywhere close to the specs. Having to close the curtains in the summer when the sun rays are striking t...

How to test thermal and solar heat transfer

How can someone test thermal and solar heat transfer on installed windows. I have relatively new double hung windows and in direct sunlight they seem to be very hot and I can feel heat radiating off the window in to the room.

Thanks

Re: Expectation of radiating cold from new windows

Thanks for the info... Guess now I wait for a day with 0 degrees. I am doing rough math but a double pane window should be about 65% warmer than the outside temperature when the room is 70 degrees and there are calm winds. I will post what I find out for my windows for all to see asap.

Re: Replace window or just the sash - MI Windows

I would make sure that you will be getting a complete sash and not just a replacement IG unit which would require being re-glazed into the existing sash frame. Do you know if you have a vinyl window? My guess is that it is if you are certain it is an MI window. If that is the case, rot is unlikely wi...

Replace window or just the sash - MI Windows

The double-hung windows in my townhome are 15 years old and are condensating between the glass. I am beginning to look at replacement. The original manufacturer is MI http://www.miwd.com/ . I called them and they offer a sash replacement (LOW-e, Argon Filled, grid) for $225 a set. That makes replace...
