Re: Best for Colorado?
What research have you done with your own state energy agencies? This is a good place to start. I am sure there is a lot of help for residents of Colorado who are purchasing windows for the first time.

An awning window will give you the most view and some ventilation also.

Re: fiberglass windows
As a west coaster I think Anthony has hit the nail. Dealers know what does not sell in their area. Just how much can you expect from windows with warm weather most of the time. For good touch and feel information visit the nearby manuf plants.

Re: large GBG grills?
I agree with Randy. They charge contractors in my area from $300 to $750 per MONTH to be listed at the top. They also told me that if I gave them a list of customers they would call them and then post their responses for me. Customers here pay $70. per year. My BBB membership is $550 per year and I ...

Re: Water in Slider track
You missed my point. I was comparing the drainage systems on lift out sliders to the same drainage system on many single/double hungs.
The single/double hungs with the same drainage system as take out sliders has been denigrated many times on this forum.

Re: Water in Slider track
Curious as to why some dealers on this forum feel water drainage thru the bottom sill on a slider is acceptable but not acceptable in a single or double hung window?

I am also surprised that no one has responded to your concern about OKNA not being on the AAMA certified list. Especially since Randy has posted that AAMA is more important than NFRC.

Re: Vinyl replacement vs original aluminum in coastal area
Milgard has done extensive testing on their vinyl windows installed all along the Pacific coast. With their HP upgrade package (modifications to both the frame and glass seals) it seems to be working well. On the Oregon coast I doubt you can find a vinyl window that is not a Milgard with HP upgrade....

Just wondering if JScott and anthony still think that paint was the problem? Looks like Susan Marvin sent new sash instead of a paint brush.

Re: Lowe's Pella Thermastar
Pella has several plants making the thermastar window. If your windows are coming from their Portland plant you can expect a decent window at a moderate price. Lowes current $99 installation fee makes independent dealer/installers choose other brands to promote.

Re: Marvin Windows Sash Rot
Glad to hear you persisted in holding Marvin responsible for rotten sash. Doubt if you can get any free windows tho. Watchfull waiting is about all you can do. I guess your 3 detractors who felt paint was the real problem (addison, JScott and anthony) will have to rethink their advice. My postings w...
