Re: New Construction Windows for Home in South Carolina

I'm not sure if Sunrise has factory-applied extension jambs or not. It's been years since I carried their windows, but if they do have them then that would be the way to go. I've had great results with Okna, HiMark and Starmark's extension jambs. The picture below is of an Okna 500DX Double Hung wit...

Re: Recommendation for casement windows NE Illinois

Okna has their windows available with 4 9/16" factory applied wood extension jambs for use with 2 x 4 walls and also 6 9/16" factory applied wood extension jambs for use with 2 x 6 walls. They also have custom size factory applied wood extension jambs available for walls that are not the n...

Re: TrimQuick?

This place has it. The 1" is not available per piece but if you go to the wider trim you can get it per piece. It comes in 12' pieces. http://www.vinylvisions.net/ While I did post a place that has it up above, we don't use it on a general basis in our company. We usually custom cut either cust...

Re: Philips window warranty

I read that they ceased production in 2009, but then I found other info online that they are still being made through Marquee Vinyl Windows. You can get their info via google. Hope this helps.

Re: 86 x 42 storm window question..

Oh, one last thing.. Do most sliders (only way to get egress window) have drain holes that lead into the frame? Or pocket sill design? Thanks! Rebar, I've read in a couple of your posts including this one above that you are in a pickle trying to get a window that will meet egress in the size you cu...

Re: 86 x 42 storm window question..

You may find that storm windows are more expensive these days than you may expect. Since storm windows are not part of my business I was shocked the last time I priced them. For many people, the 2-3 hundred or more spent getting a storm window installed might better be put towards a new window. Just...

Re: Need help in identifying a window brand

I have the answer for you. It's a window from General Aluminum in Carrollton, Texas They seem to be still in business. The window has a 10 year warranty from what I read. Here's a post on Swissco's website, who is a parts supplier for current and old discontinued windows. http://www.swisco.com/discu...

Re: Am I being ripped off? Please help

This whole deal smells fishy. I don't know these window brands, but I did notice that the Survivor only has a 20 year warranty on the glass and 5 years on hardware. The other window has a full lifetime warranty including labor. That shows there is a difference right there. I'm hoping some of the pro...

Re: Need help reattaching window trim

+ 1. I have a feeling that the mull strip might have been problemsome at the time of install. It looks like it from the appearance of everything. I have a feeling that you may have trouble getting it to hold itself on so make sure you use some good adhesive as well. Have some tape ready in case you ...

Re: Window Replacement Decision and Importance of Spray Foam

Company #2 is behind the times and/or misinformed. Minimal expanding window foam has been widely used successfully since the 90s. It shocks me that someone in the business has this opinion.
This opinion would be at least a small red flag to me, as well as their use of such a crappy window.

Re: Foam inserts vs spray foam inside window frames

I think windows with the foam inserts are actually slightly superior, not the other way around. Many manufacturers have switched from spray foaming to foam inserts to get higher foam content. I've personally been at three major manufacturers over the years where I saw first hand that extrusions that...

Re: Window will not stay up. What is the Brand?

asd1111, If you can't get them out as in the video, have you tried pulling the sash real hard to the side? Many times a window sash like this is what's called a side load. If it doesn't come out pulling it one direction, try pulling it to the other direction.

Re: Low vs mid-grade windows

I agree completely with the last two posters and would only add that you may be surprised at the price if you got quotes for better premium windows such as Okna/HiMark and others. They may be closer in price to your other quotes than you are imagining, especially if you eventually share the price of...
