Re: Pella Proline replacement options

Miratec is awful IMO. Seen many failures.

LP is good stuff as is the azek, versatex, etc. Never had an issue. Only time I've seen an issue is due to bad or incorrect installation of it.

Same for the installs, The Nerd is on point there. This is done all day everyday by competent guys.

Re: Window Quotes in Tennessee

I have looked at other online reviews and do not see many negative reviews of Mezzo. Where have you been looking??? If anything, that window isn't brought up much these days as there are better choices that the roofers and pickup truck contractors are offering such as Provia. Insignia is an...

two great windows to choose from here. I also don't care for that interior low e, but maybe not awful for your location.

Re: Okna

While the 600 is better than the 500, if you are going white/white without an extensive list of upgrades, the 500 is a nice choice. Bang for the buck champ imo.

Gilkey is far from a great window, easy choice here.

Re: Okna

Did you have the company out yet? Which window did you look at? All of Oknas window are good, maybe not a big fan of the 400.
Post back the details, we can give you more feedback.

Re: SoftLite single hung?

The reason NOT to buy single hungs: They exist to be a lower cost alternative. Its very rare to find a good one for that reason, since they are made to save a penny here and a penny there.

Re: Pella Impervia vs Alside Mezzo

You can compare them to cars, power tools, fruit, or even ex-wives, doesn't matter. They are both very differnet but equally bad (the last comp wins based on that).
Find some new options.

Never heard of them. Not much info on the webiste. Not very promising. The Okna OTOH is a lock. Easy choice.

Re: Anlin vs Provia

I wouldn't choose provia. Biggest scam in the business right now IMHO. Not sure if a more appropriate comparison is Alside since they have taken the crown as the window of choice for every hack roofer and contractor that doesn't know much about windows, or Pella where a respected name brand and grea...

Re: Pocket v Full Viewable Glass Size

Researching this a bit, I remain confused. I am considering replacing windows, pocket vs. full install. The house was built in 2003, well-known tract builder = windows with poor insulation around the window frame, based on the air leakage I can feel. Questions: • I have gotten quotes from 3 compani...

Softliet or Okna are your choices here, dont lump provia in with those guys. Other than that it sounds like you are on the right track.

Re: New Construction Received Replacement Windows from Simonton?

I see that you posted this in the DIY section, your line of questioning is scary if you are the guy that is installing these. If you aren't, these are easy questions for your installer to answer. At the end of the day, the pros above are right about snapping in nail fins to solve this, assuming that...

Re: Is this installation information correct?

Thanks for the snarky reply, Uncle Eddie. I put Okna windows in my previous home, and you know what? None of the buyers gave a damn. I found out that as long as the windows look nice and open and close properly without any noticeable drafts, buyers don't care at all about which brand or quality of ...
