Re: SoftLite single hung?
The reason NOT to buy single hungs: They exist to be a lower cost alternative. Its very rare to find a good one for that reason, since they are made to save a penny here and a penny there.

Re: Pella Impervia vs Alside Mezzo
You can compare them to cars, power tools, fruit, or even ex-wives, doesn't matter. They are both very differnet but equally bad (the last comp wins based on that).
Find some new options.

Never heard of them. Not much info on the webiste. Not very promising. The Okna OTOH is a lock. Easy choice.

Re: Anlin vs Provia
I wouldn't choose provia. Biggest scam in the business right now IMHO. Not sure if a more appropriate comparison is Alside since they have taken the crown as the window of choice for every hack roofer and contractor that doesn't know much about windows, or Pella where a respected name brand and grea...

Re: Pocket v Full Viewable Glass Size
Researching this a bit, I remain confused. I am considering replacing windows, pocket vs. full install. The house was built in 2003, well-known tract builder = windows with poor insulation around the window frame, based on the air leakage I can feel. Questions: • I have gotten quotes from 3 compani...

Re: Indianapolis - Central Indiana companies
Softliet or Okna are your choices here, dont lump provia in with those guys. Other than that it sounds like you are on the right track.

Re: New Construction Received Replacement Windows from Simonton?
I see that you posted this in the DIY section, your line of questioning is scary if you are the guy that is installing these. If you aren't, these are easy questions for your installer to answer. At the end of the day, the pros above are right about snapping in nail fins to solve this, assuming that...

Re: Is this installation information correct?
Thanks for the snarky reply, Uncle Eddie. I put Okna windows in my previous home, and you know what? None of the buyers gave a damn. I found out that as long as the windows look nice and open and close properly without any noticeable drafts, buyers don't care at all about which brand or quality of ...

Re: Is this installation information correct?
No, but you are choosing low price over quality on the window, so may as well do the same on the install, right?

Re: Vinyl failing on new windows
Time for an update. Builder has been dragging feet on response and I wanted them to resolve other issues before I revive this issue again. I ended up calling the manufacturer and the rep who answered the phone was very friendly and open with the facts. I got an audio recording of an admission that ...

Re: Incorrectly framed new window installation
Is that a 1 story home? But yes...this was not done correctly. Hey, it is not a 1 story home. Why do you ask? Update: I brought the issue up to my " contractor " and provided a diagram of what it should look like which he complied and corrected it but then after he corrected the issue cam...

Re: Incorrectly framed new window installation
This work was not done by a contractor. Get your money back right away and hire someone qualified. I'm sure it will probably cost a lot more, and for good reason.

The Sunrise and Okna options should be your only two choices. Don't skimp, this is an investment that will last decades.
