Re: okna 500 vs 800

Ask to see the Okna 600. Basically has all the features as the 800 but with a more narrow and sleek frame. It's a very nice window.
Did you also look at Soft Lite ( elements or LS elite) ?

Re: Window Advice

Personally, I have never seen a nice looking fiberglass window. That being said, fiberglass windows have notoriously high air leakage ratings which is a “ no go” with us.

Re: Purchased replacement window. Now what? Advice needed.

American Craftsman/ Silverline are absolute garbage. Finding a window company who is willing to install only one window will be difficult. Most companies have a minimum of 4-5 windows due to the expense of sending an installer, setting up the truck and equipment along with the expense of the caulks,...

Re: Vytex or Sierra Pacific??

Out of the 3 quotes thus far, the Vytex is the clear winner by far. The “ potomac” is much better designed than the other 2.

Re: Replacing new install ( w/nail fin) with replacement

The most common way is to install "sheetrock to sheetrock" with no nail flange. This can be done properly without compromising the seal. Installing with a flange is the best option but that will also cost much more due to all the extra labor. Just to reiterate, as long as the installer kno...

We do like Soft Lite and our experience has been a good one in terms of qc.
You would probably want to take a look at Stanek. They make a nice looking window from what I remember.

No worries at all. The installers will make sure they have plenty of water as well.
As far as materials, most caulks are tested for extreme temps.

Great window. It may actually be the sunrise vanguard.
His approach is 100% acceptable and by far the most common method. You should be fine.
A full frame tear out is good but that requires new interior and exterior trim and can be very costly.

Re: New or replacement? Install?

Just some food for thought. The majority of folks that come to this site regarding complaints about their windows/ installation are 99% the result of a family friend or just a jack of all trades contractor who has the windows supplied by the homeowner in order to save some money. How much money was ...

$650 is ridiculously low and questionable.
