Re: Okna 500 vs 600 difference?

The platform may be similar in terms of frame but the okna 600 does have those additional structural features which I view as important. Another window with nice features is by vytex; the potomac series. They have really stepped up their game and because they are somewhat local to us, we sometimes u...

Re: Okna 500 vs 600 difference?

More likely they dont have access to the 600 series. Wouldnt hurt to get a quote for the 600 series. Soft lite gives dealers certain access to certain window series. I imagine okna does the same.

Re: Okna 500 vs 600 difference?

They both have thinner frames/ more glass. However, the okna 600 series has structural sash reinforcement as well as a structural interlock in the sill. The 500 wont have those features. As a former installer who converted to the sales side of things, I think those structural features are important....

Re: Apex vs Sunrise vs Okna

Maybe you have drywall returns and he wants to install with a flange and cut back the siding? That may sound a bit more logical in your situation. Apex offers a decent window just an fyi.
Capping does NOT trap moisture. That sounds like fake news from msnbc.

Re: Window (in)decision: Harvey Classics vs. Okna 600s vs. Marvin Essentials

That was probably the "tribute" and not the classic. Tribute is a step above the classic but still kind of average.

Re: Whatever happened to Heat Mirror Windows?

agree Randy. Our company really thought about it since they improved the technology significantly but our new sales manager at the time had a very good relationship with another manufacturer and we chose the path of least resistance. They have been using a different film thats resistance to UV and s...

Re: Window (in)decision: Harvey Classics vs. Okna 600s vs. Marvin Essentials

The Harvey "classic" doesnt have thick walls, it's very basic and generic. It's more of a price point window.

Re: Whatever happened to Heat Mirror Windows?

The heat mirror today is much different than the old version from way back, it's actually a very good technology with no issues. More companies should transition to it but it can be expensive.

Re: Window (in)decision: Harvey Classics vs. Okna 600s vs. Marvin Essentials

The Okna 600 is head and shoulders above anything Harvey offers, thats a fact. Okna is also " most efficient" and it will have a MUCH better air infiltration number than Harvey. Anyone can offer efficient glass but that has nothing to do with structural integrity, durability, or air infilt...

Re: Deciding between quoted window installs

This is for 6 single double hung “replacement” and 2 bays? Do they need to construct a roof/ overhang for the bays? All windows are white in and out?
When i say single double hung, that is opposed to a twin or triple unit.

Ok. Looks like he is adding $2800 for 8 new construction/ full tear outs. Thats much more rational.
Seems like an excellent quote.

Re: Comparing Window Option

both 1 and 3 are very solid windows whereas simonton is not in my opinion. The Sunrise quote with only a $2800 upcharge for new construction/ full tear out on 18 windows makes absolutely no sense unless I am missing something here.

Re: Shims

He may have used jamb adjusters that come with the window. They work well if the gap is 1/4 inch or less.
For replacement, shims are almost never used because of the built in jamb adjusters that are designed into the window which are also called “ jamb jacks”. This is assuming there is a narrow gap.

Re: Overwhelmed by replacement vinyl options

Im not a big wincore fan. The other 3 are better windows. Ive had experience with the Bainbridge and it's a pretty good window although I prefer their soft lite " elements" series. Inside install or outside install makes no difference as far as one being better than the other.
