Re: Seeking guidance on mixed replacement
Okna 800 quote came in only a grand and change higher than climate solutions for the 10 windows, seems like a no-brainer. I do wish I could go with the other installer, much closer and recommended by others, but they don't carry any of those top vinyl brands. Between Okna 800 and comparable Sunrise...

Re: Frame Material for Larger Window in Cold Climate
You could consider fiberglass. But the cost is higher and not as air tight. What floor are the windows on? Vinyl, painted exterior, foam filled frames and sash, option for triple pane to make sure you do not have condensation. You can have the best windows and still have condensation or more condens...

Frame Material for Larger Window in Cold Climate
I need to replace some single-hung windows in my condo. The current windows are aluminum (i believe). I live in Chicago, and on extremely cold nights the frames collect frost, which then melts and damages the surrounding sill area (some drywall, others wood). As I seek out a replacment, one challeng...

Thank you for this insight! I'm going to have the mullion leak inspected, and investigate my magnetic storm window options.

Re: Aluminum Brands - Chicago
The building was rehabbed in 2006 (I believe) and assuming they are new from then. I am definitely considering doing the interior storms option as I am wary to make the investment on the aluminum windows. And I do believe I have to keep them aluminum in order to match the other units. In our main wi...

Re: Chicago Install
That is terrible news about Dave. He was such a helpful resource for me.
Thank you for the recommendations on other vendors in the area. It looks like Meister and Scientific Home Services are the best options for me.

Chicago Install
Hi - I'm looking to replace some windows in my condo in Chicago, and was looking to the community to help me along the way with two items: 1. WHO TO CALL. I had previously replaced some bedroom windows (Okna) via Dave aka Window4u on this forum. It appears that he is no longer active here and his bu...

Quote and Reco for Vinyl Replacement Windows in Chicago
Hi. I need to have two vinyl windows replaced in the city of Chicago, both roughly 36x72. I got a quote for Softlite's of around $1200 for Imperial LS and $1100 for Bainbridge - both seemed about $100/window higher than I was expected based on my research. I'm interested to hear what the community t...
