Re: Replacement glass for vinyl windows

This is a local glass shop with a great reputation. I am not sure if it is sash or window. They said the warranty is from the factory whoever that would be and I don't know the specifics. I don't remember what price was based on but he said it would be best to see it. I asked if he could just give m...

Replacement glass for vinyl windows

Hi, Do you think it would be worth replacing glass in windows vs buying new? They said they would have to see the windows but I asked for a ballpark figure for an average window and they told me about $120 and they have a 5 year warranty. The current windows are Gorell 5300 double hung, double pane ...

Re: Will a triple slider fit?

Because the previous guy said it would fit and this guy says it will not, both for Soft Lite. Just like my glass breakage post. I got different answers to the same question from 2 different people that came for a quote.

Re: Will a triple slider fit?

Is there a lot of work involved to switch from 2 side by side double hungs to a slider? There is a piece of wood in between the windows that sticks out between the windows about an inch and is 2 1/4 wide

Is a pro ok for that size or should I move up?

Will a triple slider fit?

The width is just under 63 inches wide x a little over 52 1/2 height. I measured from edge to edge of the actual window frame.

If so, would a triple slider that size be ok in a Pro or would I need to go to an LS?

Glass breakage question

If glass gets broken, is the whole section of frame and glass replaced or just the glass. I am not sure I would like the glass itself being replaced. I can have that done now to fix the seal failures but it is about half the price of a new window and a 2 year warranty. If you buy a glass breakage wa...

And the decision is

All things considered, I am going to go with the Soft Lite Pro. Had a deal at the home show with what research shows to be a very good company. Couldn't pass it up.

Re: Tough choice because

Here is an example of why it is tough. 1st company was RiteWindow. Liked their approach to doing business. After I saw some other windows , I wanted to take another look at theirs so I went to their showroom. Don't ask me why I ended up doing this but if you grab the part of the window that you use ...

Re: Okna

I thought I saw something somewhere that sounded like if Okna had a business as a dealer that they were very good. Is this true? Is the fact that Okna would have them as a dealer a vote of confidence or do you still have to be very careful?

Re: Disappointed

We had communicated before and I also mentioned after RiteWindow left that I was very happy with the way they conducted themselves. I said they have upfront pricing and no games. So it gave him a hint as to how I liked things to go. After me he had another appointment so I emailed him and told him t...

Re: Disappointed

Please understand that nothing was directed at you at all and I realize that you were not the one making the recommendation. I really appreciate all the responses to my questions. I have been burned a few times spread out over the years so I get a little overly cautious. I thought I took all necessa...

Re: Disappointed

This company that gave the really low quote is recommended by a site that claims to be there to educate people on the window buying process. When you click on the particular state, it lists different towns and or cities and clicking on every one recommends this same company for the whole state. I kn...

Re: Disappointed

Thanks for the responses. I don't mind a person trying to make a living and support their family. I just didn't expect it to happen the way it did. Doesn't mean he is dishonest. I will tell you a quote I got from another source who is presented as an honest and recommended company to do business wit...

Re: RiteWindow salesperson comment

I could have sworn he said spray foam and silicone had downfalls and they used a composite. When I asked him about it he said,

There is a caulked in sealant around the inner exterior perimeter of the window in addition to the foam gasket.
