Thanks everyone for the responses. Boy, I've been out and about window researching. We did get the Pella dude to drop his price a bit, however he could not give my any details about the Architecture series versus the Proline 850 series that RC mentioned in a posting. He said we couldn't get the bli...

You can't find darker vinyl windows because they pick up too much heat which weakens the vinyl. Vinyl expands alot with heat also, this is why you void most mfgs. warranties if you paint them darker than a certain color. If you want dark brown exterior frames, you have to go with something other tha...

Guy, I think he mentioned the scratches are on the glass, not the vinyl.

I was responding to the "genius" crack as far as being uncivil. I can't comment to aluminum fascia being dented by hail,I have no experience. Is aluminum fascia always hard up against plywood solidly with no gaps throughout its surface area? I see my aluminum gutters holding up fairly well...

Re: Pella

Hey genius, if the hail would have to "move sideways" perhaps you could explain how aluminum fascia is very often dented by hail. Number one, it gets dented without the hail moving sideways and number two, it also has wood behind it. If you want to use touch-up paint on your aluminum clad...

If the salesman did not mention it the company he represents may have some liability. You should talk to the local building inspector. If code requires safety glass you may be able to exchange the windows.

Re: with Simington, can I just order different glass to be r

We already have our windows, can we install them and then get simington to replace them with safety glass afterwards? Sounds like you have quite a wall of glass there. 8.5 inches off the floor? I'd have tempered glass in my home if I had windows like yours. Can you get replacement glass? Yes, but I...

Re: Pella windows

While Eagle does not offer the wood veneer retractable screen, they also do not offer flimsy rolled form aluminum covering on their sashes. Like Marvin, Eagle uses extruded aluminum on both the frames and the sashes. Pella's rolled form aluminum sashes dent very easily from even the smallest hail s...

I shopped all over before I made my decision. I went with the Pella architecture series because I loved the wood veneered interior retractable screen. Amazing fit, no loss in visible glass. Clear views yet the screen is there if you want. Lowes will not sell you this screen, you will have to contact...

I ordered the Pella Architecture series casements from Lowes, they are called the "850 series" there. They do not advertise them, but they are EXACTLY the same as at the Pella store, but at a great savings. I think they were about $200/window cheaper. They are much nicer than the Proline s...

Re: Samples of picture windows/bays are unthinkable

I saw a sample of a double hung without grids - I ordered 2 pictures w/ casements and a bay w/ casements so the sample didn't really show me anything. As far as the grids, I met w/ two reps on two different occasions and both assured me I'd be getting exactly what I have (external grids) upon lengt...

The look of the grids is terribly important to you, yet you did not see sample windows prior to ordering? Bad form on your part. If samples were not available, I'd not have ordered. A hard lesson learned, but its like buying a car sight unseen...unthinkable. My recommendation to you is to try and ge...

Are these total replacements (frame and window), or just inserts? I am only familiar with full frame replacements which can be ordered in any size. You may have an argument with Lowes as far as what they ordered and installed, depending on your contract.

Johnny, forget about the pressure of the "sign today" deal. The price will be better tomorrow. Second, you've not told us anything about the size or window type, as well as your wall (inside and out). There is no way to evaluate the possible installed costs without knowing the details. [co...
