If I order an 850 series sliding door can I then get the roll screen for the architect series to fit it even if Lowes does not carry that particular screen? I really like that retractable screen for the door but Lowes only carries the regular screen and a self closing one. Thanks Doc Dean I had to ...

Nope Guy, they are wrong. I've looked at Pella casements CLOSELY and the 850 series at Lowes is the Architecture series EXACTLY. Even the Pella field rep that came to my home to measure for the Rolscreens said so. Plus, the Rolscreens only fit the Architecture series and up, not the Proline, so I'm ...

I imagine the 450 is the proline? Guy? Proline is not nearly as nice. Thnner wood, not as sturdy. If you are interested in self-storing retractable screens you can't get them (for that line of Pella windows).

They don't want to upset the Pella Window store owners, thats why they are not called Architecture. Marketing. Lowes sells the windows a little cheaper. than the Pella store can. The 450 series is cheaper, less well made. I'd avoid it. The user here named "Guy" will be able to tell you mor...

There is no frame material as strong as aluminum (ok maybe steel) for a given cross sectional size. Wood, vinyl, and fiberglass windows will all have wider frames, therefore less glass and smaller openings.

Thanks Bill, but I meant the center opening size. What the center opens to. The sliding door area that I walk through. I am looking for something that opens no less than my current door of 33". As always, thanks Bill! From the website, the Pella Architecture OXO 9' patio door has a clear openi...

FenEx, I don't know if it was a problem in the past or not, I have no experience/history with Pella other than my two casements . I did have to react to your rather broad statement that they WILL discolor/fade at different rates within two years. Thats pretty inclusive, and did not describe my situa...

I have a couple of Pella casements that are two years old, dark brown, in direct sun (North Carolina HOT sun) and they match perfectly. Paints have improved over time, evidently.

FenEx:
Where is a website that shows the colors and styles available in Europe?

Is there a decent dealer/representative in North Carolina?

Thanks!

FenEx, what happened to the dark exterior colors you mentioned might be coming out? Thats the one thing holding me back from ordering!

I never thought about having them closed in the rain, thanks for the comment. One other issue I just realized is that my opening is 34 1/2 wide so I guess I would need a double casement. I saw a double on a house yesterday and they were very small width wise and I think in my situation it would be ...

RC or anyone, are they difficult to repair or replace? The retractable screens? No, they amazingly easy to install (the Pella ones). I think it took me all of 10 minutes to install them and that was on my first window. They do come with a thin wood veneer than can be stained or painted.......really...

You know, I think a patent must have expired or something, because ALOT of companies are producing retractable screens for windows, porches, patio doors, even garage doors! Phantom screens are often shown on This Old House TV shows, for instance. Today they showed an entire porch with remote control...
