Re: Marvin Windows Sash Rot

You probably have an older AAMA 2603 finish instead of the 2605 currently standard. 2605 should be used within 2 miles of the coast. I hope your using a marine grade paint. The replacement sashes sent where probably the 2605 currently used. Not knowing the history on changes I suggest you contact Ma...

Re: Strange window balance, trying to identify

Looks similar to a caradco clutch/shoe except for the square extention below the adjustment screw. You may try a jeld-wen dealer to see if they have one that would work for the old spring balance system.

Re: H window vs Gorell vs Weathershield

The standard Gayko window has to pass RAL certification. I seriously doubt that the H passes RAL as 99% of US windows do not. Basically this standard residential window model MD90 surpasses all AAMA test guidelines. Triple pane with argon Uw value is 0.12/0.13. Using standard hardware the Gayko(pron...

Re: Window World in Louisville KY

Throwing America's Windows into the barrel you can say you have looked at all the hyped TV ads with the exception of Champion. After you get through with the scum and scams check Angies' List for what others in your area say. The Gorell is an okay product from what you have looked at; however; the c...

Re: Need help deciding replacement windows

The Pella Proline is part of a class action suit. Pella appealled but it is going forward. I like the Infinity Ultrex window over the Integrity all-Ultrex window. That window was designed to go up against the lower vinyl new construction market whereas the Infinity is designed for upscale replacemen...

Re: What upgrades really matter

The LS quote would be for triple glazing I would guess. I was under the impression that foam filled sashes reduce interior condensation up north, independant from the info WOW submitted. The LS frame is less than the 5300. I have been reading on Haddon Windows. Not available here. They indicate they...

Re: Are fiberglass windows plastic?

They are related in that they are both composites. Yugo and Lamborgania are related in that they are cars. Kind of like we are all related as Homo Sapiens and all birds are avian.

A parrot last 70 years and a sparrow doesn't. This is life and some things just last longer.

Re: Are fiberglass windows plastic?

The higher end fiberglass we use must be a cotton blend. Never had a scratching issue. Polyester is not considered a plastic. Nylon would be considered plastic if it were. When we used to make these we never considered these to be plastic. I do have a text from the 60's showing a corner sample of a ...

Re: ??? after 3 presentations

Randy has good advice. WOW must be enjoying his holiday weekend so I'll throw this your way to get you started. The foam will reduce some interior condensation. When comparing dual pane to triple convert the U values to R values to better understand. Or this helps me to understand. If you have R25 i...
