Re: window shopping

Ideal makes some mid-grade products. I wouldn't consider anything that they sell high end. What about vinyl concerns you in terms of your health? You can easily get SDL (simulated divided lites-grids in between the glass, outside, and inside) as well as TDL (true divided lites) however the cost on b...

You certainly can't go wrong with the Simontons. I am not familiar with the Ellisons. Sorry.

Re: Simonton 5500 vs 9800?

9800 also comes standard with balance covers where as you need to order them in separate lengths with the 5500. That is really a minor expense difference, however, it adds up.

I like the 9800 from an aesthetics standpoint as well, however, some consumers do not. Both good windows in either case.

Re: Alside specs

Not really. The Sheffield is a sloped sill window with the clip in sill and the Ultramaxx is a pocket sill design.

Re: HELP!

You can very easily install insert windows with a nailing fin into rough openings. Putting in a sill will only shorten the overall window height.

Insert windows have there own sloped sill that is integral to the lower section of the frame that is welded to the lineals.

Re: storm windows - leave em or lose em?

There are optimal widths for air spaces when it comes to insulated glass units. Going to far under, or over those recommendations will dramatically hurt efficiency. In the case of a storm window over an new replacement window, you would wind up trapping excessive amounts of heat and likely deform th...

How about option 3...they don't want to post their BS in front of an informed audience that will shoot holes in BS stories like Swiss cheese.

Re: Aluminum vs. Vinyl Windows

92 degrees is certainly not outside the operational range of a well built vinyl window. Certainly there is some data and commonly held ideas that say that non-vinyl windows will fair better in desert climates with 100+ degree temps, however, 92 is pretty moderate for the most part. You should be goo...

Re: Replace awning with double hung??

If the entire unit is roughly 36w by 60h, that is not un-makable size at all. Well within the specs of normal production items and there are several wood clad options out there on the market that will fit your bill.

Re: Vinyl or Fibrex windows

No. The fact that she dropped her price by over 2K right off the bat should indicate a little bit about her ability to tell the truth. She is out right lying and I would tell her to provide some data to indicate that quality vinyl windows only last 5 years and when she can't, tell her to sell her ho...
