Re: Full Wrap vs Partial Wrap

He's probably referring to only covering where the exterior stops were, as opposed to covering the entire brickmould or 1x4 on the exterior. The advantages to the "full wrap" are less maintenance and protecting from future rot. The advantage to only wrapping the stops is maintaining the de...

Re: Patio door again my head is going to explode!!

79.5 is from the bottom of the door to the top of the door, the actual physical door only If your door slab that you have now is 79 1/2 then your door unit is most likely 81 1/2... the 79.5 on Anderson website is the total unit height for there sliding door. So the new unit would be slight smaller....

Re: Patio door again my head is going to explode!!

Would be a lot better if they would all be the same size but then that would be to easy... typically what I see in my area are two heights... an entry door height is typically 81 1/2 -82”. This is typical of front, side , and sometimes rear patio/double door heights.... then you have what I call a r...

Well if there is more screws holding it in than its less likely to fall out then. . I have only seen it on one that I can recall and it was a 52" wide unit

Re: Patio Door: Fiberglass? Vinyl? Hybrid Fiberglass/Vinyl?

The Sunrise Restorations door is an excellent product, but just to clarify it is a vinyl product not composite. The Vertical rails do have a fiberglass reinforcement to add to the rigidity so that is possible where the confusion was. As to the vinyl can warp statement, just about any material can wa...

Re: St. Louis Replacement Windows

There are more things to consider when replacing anything in the home (windows included) than how much money will I save. I put a lot of value in being able to sit on my couch next to a window and not be freezing my a$& off or feeling drafts. New windows should save you $ on energy cost, but it ...

Re: Milgard vs. Simonton vs. Alside

Alpine and Alside are both owned by AMI and share the same window platforms. Different branding . Alside, Revere, Alpine, Berkshire etc....... I second to look for local installers/vendors your likely to get better installation/brands

I'd double check Slocomb CR rating. Im showing 62 CR and .07 is the AI on the Slocomb. Surprised they are that close in pricing tbh

Re: Separating transom from window

So let me get this right. A complicated and sketchy install method and your leaning toward the cheapest $6k quote. I fell like this is recipe for disaster. Adding the transoms to complete the install the right isn't going to cost that much if any more. I'd just do the whole opening properly so you k...

Re: New construction window brands?

If the prices are accurate Sunrise Restorations is a no brainer imo. Although I'd be leary until the actual quote comes in. One thing I'll add is look at actual samples of the woodgrains. They are not created equal and some look more realistic than others. I agree that 99% of window operational prob...

Re: Visible glass for picture windows (Vytex; Okna; Soft-lite)

Generally the fixed casement extrusions are larger in width than a picture window extrusion. If they aren't directly next to a casement window I'm not sure getting a casement extrusion would be worthwhile. Most would agree that the Sunrise fixed casement would have nice detail and slim frames. The V...

Re: Replacing Windows - Honest Opinions about Cost / Quality

Softlite would be a slight better performer. Not likely to notice a real life difference. Some people would prefer the slimmer frames on Sunrise but if that is of no concern than the Softlite would be better performer and in your case cheaper.

Re: Recommendation for casement windows NE Illinois

I could be wrong but I have never seen a vinyl window that would take up that much width. They are pretty much all similar across the manufactures. 3 1/4ish jamb thickness. I understand the no metal flashing but not sure why you'd be against jamb extension other than cost factor. I know the Pella Mo...

Re: Window replacement Slocomb Harmony 143?

I've sold and installed both windows. Imo slocomb is one of the better value brands and sunrise is one of the better premium. So there is no surprise in the price difference. As mentioned above the slocomb comes standard with sb70 and is the only option. The glass is just as dark as the sunrise omeg...

Re: Replacing windows- Kansas- any suggestions?

Bill, is the Window Universe being installed by Alside? or do they have a location there? Obviously the two most expensive are the better products although I think your mixing the lines, Vanguard is a Sunrise line as is Restorations.
