I've also heard reports that carepenters can have some of the longest lifespans due to the amount of exercise that they get throught their work. All I'm saying is that I now carry a respirator and some light duty dust masks in my truck for those occasions when we run into lead paint falling off all...

wow...holy thread resurrection. No good or great installers are getting $200 per opening. Doesn't happen unless you are talking about something like a steel pan removal with a complete reframe. WW installers get paid less than open market and as such, usually get the lower end of the work quality sc...

Most people do not require the need of a dedicated STC window. Most applications will do just fine if people utilize "offset" glazing. Offset glazing is basically differing thickness of glass in the window to get the maximum noise cancellation out of a given IGU (insulated Glass Unit). As ...

Do you think that the SS option is necessary for my area?
Said it on the other board...spend the money on the 5500 or the 9800. It will be well worth it.

Window4U, I'm sure your not pleased about measuring a couple of windows wrong, but it makes me feel better about the five I screwed up in December, one of them a $420.00 window...........cost. Tis good to see other pro's make a few errors. I thought I was alone in this boat. Anybody in the market f...

While they are almost entirely the same window...I believe the Prism Platinum is the equivalent of the Simonton Reflections 5500 series.

The impressions window is a little bit more visually appealing because of the interior detailing on the sash extrusion, but that is the only real difference.

Re: Vinyl windows in an alpine setting

We are currently completing the architecture of a 6500 sq ft home in the mountains of Utah near where the 2002 Winter Olympics downhill competitions were held. We are interested in the low maintenance characteristics of vinyl frames with low-e, low SHGC, and inert-gas-filled glass to reduce the los...

Board Consensus on Top 5 in each category

I would like to see what the board/professionals think that the top 5, doesn't have to be in any particular order, are in each respective category. I will throw out a couple in each that I think should be in consideration. Vinyl -Shuco -Soft-Lite Wood -Loewen -Marvin Fiberglass/Composite -Marvin Alu...

That may be difficult. Window4U typically has pretty good references as far as replacement hardware companies go but you may be out of luck on this one. I am sure you could take a gear assembly to a fabricator and they could duplicate the mechanism but at what cost. It would probably wind up costing...

Re: Window World Vs. Window Depot

I am looking to replace the windows in my home. I have received two quotes, one from window world and one from window depot. The window world quote ($5800) and the window depot quote ($5200) was for 10 double hung windows and 6 sliders. Window depot said that their manufacturer was republic but win...

Re: need new windows, have little money & don't know who

See Responses in Bold. I will chime in on what I think but wait to get more board input. Also, relax...your windows aren't going anywhere now so you can take time to educate yourself and make a decision on your timeline. I want to get replacement windows in right away. The best I can get for the mon...

Argon is not a waste of money at that elevation or climate. Argon is especially beneficial in areas where the winter is significant. If you have a quote on Marvins that is that close to Alsides...go with the Marvins. Most manufacturers do not argon fill because they will pop glass packs with they ge...

Didn't even read the measurements and see the doubles. That makes your price much more in line with pricing in this area.
