Re: Frost forming on my Softlite Imperial LS windows

Hi Jim Is the frost on the edge of the glass or between the sash and the frame? It is likely that the window is not faulty, and that the installation is ok as well, although I can't rule that out. It would be helpful to know if your windows are double glazed or triple glazed, and what brand they are...

Re: Sash Kit Questions

Ryan I sold thousands of both sash kits and various brands of pocket replacements. In fact I have both types in my own home. If both types are installed properly I feel the pocket replacements will still be slightly better, but like some others have said the sash kits will work just fine if you have...

Re: Recently installed replacement windows

Sometimes you can see visible evidence of argon gas in new windows, depending on the spacer. Do a quick check of the spacer between the glass. Many have a visible plug in them to seal the hole where the argon was inserted. If you see the hole with the plug in it then you most likely have argon gas i...

Re: Colors

Fiberglass windows can be painted without causing any damage to the window. You can order them from virtually any manufacturer in dark brown/bronze on the exterior. As for the interior, dark brown is common, and if beige is not available, it can be painted.

Re: General questions about interior storm windows

As much as I don't like interior storms, I'd have to reluctantly say they will make a big difference in your case since you have single glazed windows. Some of the things I don't like about plastic/mylar/Plexiglas interior storms include that they tend to bow in and slightly distort the view, are ea...

Re: Why do storm windows perform poorly?

Get impact windows installed to save from strong winds they may shatter but not broken also get window blind installed bamboo shades would the best they provide relief from summer's heat and winter's cold giving a natural look to your room. Re: Why do storm windows perform poorly?

You didn’t mention if you have single glazed or double glazed windows. Presumably they’re currently without a storm window. There are a number of issues worth mentioning regarding storm windows. For what it's worth here's my thoughts, organized into PROS, CONS, and CLOSING COMMENTS: CONS FOR BUYING ...

Re: Lots of window condensation---what to do about it?

Thanks. I'm still at it, more than ever, but with the busy-ness of life I don't frequent the boards as often as I used to a few years back. But every once in a while I pop in to see how everyone's doing, and if I can add something new to the discussion I'll chime in. I hope you all have a great Chri...

Re: Lots of window condensation---what to do about it?

Hi Walter, I believe I can help. I'm going to throw a lot of statistics at you to address condensation on your windows. Keep in mind that these stats are based on a worst-case scenario of 0° outside and 70° inside, which sounds like it may apply to your climate but is not applicable to warmer, south...

Re: Renewal by Andersen vs. Andersen 400 Series Tilt and Wash

The 400 series in my opinion would be the better window in terms of longevity and aesthetics, but the Renewal window has a better warranty.

Re: Manufacturer Identification

Additional questions. Is the window wood, vinyl, aluminum,or other? Is the screen a screen only or is it a storm/screen combination window? Was the screen supplied by the window manufacturer (you many not know that one). Sometime by identifying the window manufacturer you can determine the screen ma...

+1 What he said.

I've noticed over the years more and more window manufacturers changing their installation instructions to suggest or require the use of foam instead of fiberglass.

Re: Wood Replacement

Not only is it not true, but you have two main choices as to how to install wood replacement windows into an existing sash opening. Some manufacturers offer replacement units that are the top and bottom sashes in a replacement frame that goes into your existing frame (all vinyl replacements are norm...

Re: Casement windows manufacturer/ installer recommendations

Actually, Consumer Reports does not just test Big Box windows. The have tested Marvin recently, and you cannot purchase Marvin in a big box store. Educating yourself about whom you select is never a bad idea. Should you rely soley on these resources? No. Ask for referances and google the company na...
