Re: Seeking guidance on mixed replacement
I'll add that I should be getting a Okna quote today. Now you are on the right track... Also consider Softlite (Elements, Elite), Sunrise (whatever their top lines are called these days), and a couple others. You probably have access to the Starmark composite as well which is a phenomenal window. T...

Re: Scuffed and scratched New vinyl windows
You are getting the runaround here, and none of that really matters. There is no real discretion here unless it is being exercised to go above and beyond standards. If this was to rise to the level of legal action, the ASTM standards would be referenced unless the manufacturer states something else ...

Re: Okna 1800 worth double Provia Endure with Triple-pane?
Sunrise should be on your list, it's a much better window. There have been concerns about how all of that corporate change over would impact things, but to date the answer seems to be nada. I think its far more likely for Provia to axe or make wholesale changes to their window line (like they have w...

Re: Scuffed and scratched New vinyl windows
There is a standard on this and it's not based on opinion. Search ASTM C1036-16, ASTM C1376-15, ASTM C1172-14, ASTM C1048-12 and ASTM E2190. Its hard to tell whether or not your meet that standard or not as they are zoomed in pretty tight. I can say that many scratches and scuffs on both glass and v...

Where are you located? Based on the regions that these two products are available, I suspect that it may be a cooler climate in which case the numerically higher SHGC is better under normal circumstances. - What is the CR (condensation resistance) rating on both options? - Do you know the air leakag...

Re: Sash packs
+1. If that manufacturer is still around you may be able to find something, but if not, your options would be sash kits, replacement windows, or custom built sash replacements which would probably cost more than a new window. You'd have to find a local shop that could produce the latter.

Re: Vinyl failing on new windows
Good Afternoon! I am reaching out to see what the outcome was for this Cascade window issue? We are in an AZ Toll Brothers home where our windows have been warping from the first few months we moved in. Cascade is just about the WORST at ever responding to any calls/emails regarding the issue, and ...

Re: 4 Quotes - Okna, Sunrise, Andersen- Cheaper alternatives?
Hello, thank you for your answers. I got a couple other quotes which were all around 20K-25k. And while I was reading the quote for Okna again, I noticed I had a front door in this quote which I completely forgot about. So, we took the door out and it came down to ~23k. And we went with the Okna wi...

Re: Concerned on this install - looking for advice/input
When homes were built 100 years ago, they used layered felts and didn't have preformed pans, subsill, foam, and sealants. They didn't leak then. 100 years ago?? Most of the stuff I see from the last decade or two is missing most of that! @OP, the consensus seems to be that based on the descri...

Re: Pella and Andersen Failures
I have lots of investment properties which have contained hundreds of Pella and Andersen vinyl and aluminum clad windows and doors. Thats' a pricey choice for investment properties... So knowing what I know, I would buy any brand except Andersen or Pella Hopefully the "any brand" comment ...

+1. How is the door sealing and functioning? Any major red flags in those areas? Big picture: There is an ideal way to do things, some acceptable ways to do things, and then some bad/unacceptable ways of doing things. Outside of some sealant touchup and ensuring that the top is foamed (it may have b...

Re: Soundproofing Vinyl vs Fiberglass
Kind of...lol So here's the thing: unless you choose a glass package that is made specifically for sound attenuation (specifically offset glazing or laminated glass), the STC ratings are all going to be similar when compared with apples to apples glass (ie: double pane or triple pane). Even then, co...

Re: Soundproofing Vinyl vs Fiberglass
I wouldn't call it high quality... You are in a slight pickle, as the higher performance (ie: airtight) windows that are widely recommended aren't available in your region. That's not to say that there are no choices that fit the mold, they simply aren't the same ones that are used in the Northeast ...

Re: Soundproofing Vinyl vs Fiberglass
A couple questions I still have that I hope you could help me with: 1. Is vinyl not a concern with hot weather exposed to the sun? I am concerned about warping over the years. As long as it's a high quality product, there is no concern. 2. Is it better to get a window that is weatherproof and then ...

Re: Soundproofing Vinyl vs Fiberglass
Window material is far less impactful than is the glazing type and air infiltration rates. Bingo. Totally agree with this... although there are relatively few fiberglass windows that rate well in AI, so indirectly that can point to vinyl as a better option for your set of priorities. Find a window ...
