Re: In Need of Advise on partially installed replacement windows

Although I doubt you will have any issues with mold, I have to wonder what kind of a contractor would leave them uncapped for several days? Overnight, perhaps but several days? I hope he gets them done soon. I consider his actions very unprofessional.

Re: Newbie here - considering Gorell windows for the first time

Generally the vinyl used on hardware store windows is very flimsy. They also have very poor structural, air infiltration and water penetration ratings. The hardware, glass seals, weather stripping and design tends to be very poor. What you will find with windows is that like every other product, you...

Re: Newbie here - considering Gorell windows for the first time

Overall Gorell makes a pretty good window. I can assure you nobody who works for Gorell is coming to your house. Likely it's a contractor who sells Gorell Windows. I would also question any source that states negative information about Gorell. It's very likely just a competitor who is tired of losin...

Re: Northeast SHGC and U Vaules ?

Definitely use a high SHGC on the south facing windows. Espeially beneficial in NY and because you have trees on the southern elevation.

Re: New to this forum. Looking for advise.

Krypton is a waste of money when used in a double pane glass window. However, krypton is very advantageous when used with triple pane glass.

Most vinyl window manufacturers offer several choices for a woodgrain-look interior.

Me neither. However, I can't say it isn't a decent product. If installed by a good company and priced right it's probably a safe buy.

Re: Price Quote on Soft-lite....Thoughts

Depending on what the quote I get next week is it worth paying thousands of dollars more to have the .02?[/color] No. The LS is a nicer window, but not thousands nicer. (Personally I actually kind of like the thinner profile of the Pro).. Both of those AI ratings are very good and far more than suf...

Re: Price Quote on Soft-lite....Thoughts

One should know the full details of the install before commenting on price. I know some successful contractors that are very aware of what others are charging and it does affect their pricing. Yeah we know Todd. You always seem to know an exception to the rule. What factors do we need to know that ...

Re: Price Quote on Soft-lite....Thoughts

i don't care how low his overhead is, thats an outrageously cheap price for that window and its gotta make you wonder. even at the very low end of the labor price spectrum, its a mystery how he will not be losing money. Oh, I agree. I'd jump on that before the contractor figures out he made a mistak...

Re: Price Quote on Soft-lite....Thoughts

Windows are not a commodity. Therefore there is no "going rate". Different contractors price window differently due to variances in their cost of doing business. A large company with a lot of overhead and fixed costs will likely be more than a smaller, newer company that does not have the ...

Re: Price Quote on Soft-lite....Thoughts

The Softlite Imperial Pro is NOT the same as the LS (unless something very recently changed), however the Pro is a nice window and that is a very low price... I wouldn't hesitate to install that window, you might just think about vetting that installer thoroughly due to his confusion on the product...
