Re: Very large replacement project

It can't hurt. I would call the guys at HomeSealed and ask for Brandon first. If they will travel for the job, that would be my default go to. Don't know the other dealer, but I do know Brandon's operation.

Re: Very large replacement project

Low-e 366 in Chicago? A climate that has VASTLY more (Nearly 10:1) heating degree days vs. cooling degree days (i.e. amount of time you run your heat vs. AC). He works in Chicago and thinks triple pane is overkill? Forgive my critique of your neighbor's fenestration logic. I am sure he is a good guy...

Re: Very large replacement project

I do know they have gone to Chicago when the project warrants it. Just as an FYI. As to the vinyl vs. FG question...mostly comes down to your preferences on aesthetics really. When you compare the Marvin to something like the Okna EnviroStar (800) on thermal performance, Design Pressure, Air infiltr...

Re: Very large replacement project

What area of the country are you in? Available material options will be somewhat regional in nature. Most of the Lindsay quotes we ever see are out of Chicago area even those they are based up in Minnesota. If you are in that neck of the woods....I would definitely call Brandon and the guys at HomeS...

Re: Sound dampening not up to spec

Need to look at wall mass as well as the attic. But like HomeSealed said...if the window leaks air...it will leak sound as well.

Part of the reason that a tighter window will outperform one that isn't as tight if all other things are equal.

Re: replacement in historic home

Anything can be ordered "custom". The entirety of the replacement industry is only based on custom sized windows.

If you want a real wood interior, I think the Marvin Elevate is the prettier unit to be honest.

Re: Okna Starmark Evo Gut Check

There certainly have been price increases and perhaps your just seeing a few that were "stacked" up that came to fruition. If anything, Okna was slower about rolling them out but I do know that the composite material of the EVO, given that it is more materially sensitive by mass, has felt ...

You have some long time poster and quality contractor options right here on the board. I would reach out to those guys first.

I just call it the STC glass. They have just that one option.

Mike is in that area. Have you been able to get connected or do you need his email?

Re: Okna for sound abatement in South Jersey

Better to do it once...than twice.

Okna does have a sound control glass option that is as good at the laminated glass and less expensive. It's been tested in their 600 series window and I think is available in that series as well as the 800 and EVO.

Re: Replacing the glass from another identical window

Fixed panels are either a movable panel that is "pinned" in place or a direct set like a single hung window. Can you post up some pictures? Either way, should be doable. Either way, if you are trying to buy some time or use some of your neighbor's sashes to extend the life of your openings...

Re: Advice on Windows in Denver

Weird how they have that last one on there and begs the question as to what they do to it in order to cut the air leakage by 75%. Now...that said, they are also running a unit that is nearly 40% larger (4' by 6' double hung is a whopper) that will artificially depress the air infiltration number, bu...
