Re: Looking for advice on new construction (Wisconsin)
Have you tried entering your zip code on Gorell's website? They would direct you to the closest dealer(s) who will have samples... For that matter, why doesn't the guy who have you the bid have a sample??? ...........So if I'm reading this correct, as it stands the Softlite is cheaper? If that is th...

Re: Looking for advice on new construction (Wisconsin)
You said earlier that you were quoted $17.8 on the Gorell's, but your graphic shows $20.2? Am I missing something?... Both of those windows are very comparable when given similar glass packages. The each have their pros and cons imo. The Softlite is probably a little more attractive and will have sl...

Re: Looking for advice on new construction (Wisconsin)
I'd say that price "installed" is very good. Personally I believe that a window installer that does nothing but install windows all day everyday will deliver a better install than a framing crew... As for the glass packages, the Energy master 3 is a nice upgrade to triple pane with argon a...

Re: Looking for advice on new construction (Wisconsin)
Whoa, information overload  ... This seems like a no-brainer to me. That Gorell 5300 is an excellent window and on par with the Softlite Elements (and better than the Barrington). The price that they've given you is excellent as well. At that price you could probably upgrade to the Triple w/kry...

Re: Looking for advice on new construction (Wisconsin)
What will the installer be responsible for? If they are adding any trim work, flashing, etc, (exterior or interior) then it would still seem a little high, but not outrageous. If all they are doing is dropping it in with a nailing fin, then its definitely on the high side. I really don't think there...

Re: Direct delivery for 23 windows and 2 sliding porch doors.
Most if not all good manufacturers (and even most bad ones) will not sell directly to a consumer. You'll need to contact either a building supply house, or a dealer who offers cash and carry. Even if they would, you'd likely be charged full list price which is more than you'd pay from a supply house...

I sincerely appreciate the thought, however you would be out of our current service area... I'd certainly be happy to do anything I can to help though.

Re: Looking for advice on new construction (Wisconsin)
I commend you for your concern of important choices.. Personally, I prefer vinyl windows, however if one of the prefinish woodgrain options does not match the rest of your woodwork, you may be forced to choose a window with a wood interior. If this is the case, the number one enemy of your windows w...

Re: Looking for advice on new construction (Wisconsin)
Lee, Typically (at least around here), the company who is contracted for the rough carpentry will handle the window installs as well. That is why new construction almost always has subpar windows, because you have builders who know nothing about windows buying them, framers who know little about win...

Re: vinyl replacement windows jeldwen vs. PlyGem (Certain Teed)
Neither one is a great choice, although you could find worse... I like the Plygem lines that were formerly Great lakes, but the certainteed is not impressive from what I've seen. The line that I'm familiar with is the old Bryn mawr II.

+1, the Gorell line is nice, but WOW has some equally excellent options and you won't find a better guy to deal with.

Re: Replacement Windows - custom look
Well, my intent was not to come off as whacky, but to point out some differences. I am not a salesperson by the way - a service person. I can tell you that if you are looking for quality then the glass process may be a point of interest to you. It's the difference between a 2% or less failure rate ...

Re: Fair Price for Okna Starmark Replacement Window Installed?
Sounds like a good price to me. I don't sell that product so I can't say for sure, but it is a very high-end window with some options, so I don't know that you'll find a better deal than that.
