Doesn't it matter what kind of exterior (siding, brick stucco, etc) as well as what kind of interior trim? Sills? It seems some jobs would be more complex than others. Or, are they a constant cost, no matter what kind of house and what kind of trim?

Guy, I'm think I'm going to use a Pella Impervia slider for a 4'X5' rough opening window I have. It will replace an old aluminum frame slider. I've installed Pella Architecture series casement windows before with no problems. Any special tips on Impervia? I'll order the intregral nailing flange on t...

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I think most Designer Series units have insulated glass on the outer two panes, then blinds, then an inner removable pane. Three panes total. This is so that you can get access to your blinds, should you need. I think you CAN order single pane glass for the outer pane (r...

Good reputation? On this board? They seemed to be talked up about 1.5 years ago, but since then many of their windows have gotten a bad reputation. Especially their double hung units.

From my experience, most display windows seem really "beat up". For instance the Marvin display windows at Fitch Lumber here are in terrible shape. They are dented and most of the hardware is loose or missing. If you go by that sample alone, you would think Marvin makes one of the worst wi...

They are more difficult to clean than units where the sash is not hinged from the left/right. For instance, the Marvin and Pella casement sashes move so that both sides of the glass are easily (and safely) cleaned from the inside.

New Andersen "invisible" window screens

Have any of you seen these in person? How does Andersen's new product compare with Pella's "invisible" window screen?

I've been told by HVAC guys that you don't want too large (tonnage) of an air conditioner, because it won't run enough to keep the humidity in check. I don't know if that relates to your window issues or not. (I'm not a window expert)

I installed and finished mine myself. It is alot of work! I followed Pella's guidelines of first doing a light sanding, then a pre-stain conditioner that prevents the splotchy patterns, then the stain, then 3 coats of exterior poly-u. To do it right requires ALOT of time and care. I bet they failed ...

you and RC have said that Pella's paint finish has improved. Please let me know what's changed in the past five years or so. From what I've read the current "standard" Enduraclad paint was introduced in late 1998, so products with that paint were not in homes until 1999 or later. Are Pell...

When I wrote into Pella corporate and asked about the painting before/after roll they asked "what color". Evidently the most popular colors (E.G. white) are pre-finished while others are sprayed after forming. Kynar is sprayed after forming.
