Re: What style of window is best?

Top quality casement windows should last your lifetime.
One of the issues should be resolved by now which is settlement of the house, casements are affected more severly by settlement, that should be done on your house .
You also need a master installer to measure and set them correctly.

Re: Simonton Impressions 9800 question!!!!!

It would be best if the peices were fit tightly together.
It does not affect ig nor air infiltration.

It sounds like you are looking at the glazing bead which is not welded. The sash and frame would be.

Re: price to replace 132" x 66" window

Lots of window installers do reglazing. The post leaves out almost all details, besides a width and height. Why replace it/the end goal? Is it flat? A bow? Pent roof or wrap to soffit? How many sections? What is the existing unit and its condition? What are the site conditions? Any vents? Color? Bas...

good quality and cheap do not normally seem to go hand in hand.
Look for a mid grade Simonton.

Re: House alarm sensor practice?

I dig the switch out, put on a peel and stick(surface mounted) switch with a matching magnet. No holes drilled in the new vinyl windows. For wood windows I do the press and fit like you have now. Most window installers hate alarms. I got tired of trying to schedule and interface with the alarm compa...

Re: Leaky Basement Hoppers - URGENT

I have often found that the problem is migrating surface water.
A simply fix that I have used on sevaral occasions is to caulk the window well to the wall, use Quad or similar.

Different DP ratings can be had with the same model of window, cmr reinforcement and glass thickness.
I would find the air infiltration #s.

Re: Air Leakage

Air infiltration of a direct set PW could be 0.

In your previuos calculations how large is the window? Doesn't the size affect the total infiltration/exfiltration?

Re: Style vs. Function Wood Windows

Pella, Eagle , or Marvin will all be able to provide a SDL grid that will keep the style. You will need to pick a glazing package that is right for your climate, your local window pro will be able to help you. Equally important to the product selection is the installer. I would look for an owner ope...
