AI is a number from a structural test that tells how much air leaks througb the window at a wind speed of 25 MPH.
It is the third test number that you must consider along with U and SHGC.
The lower the number the better. ie .14 is 7 times more leaky than .02.

I would take a look at Soft-lite.

the prices you were quoted for low performing product with barely acceptable installation is a rip off.
Look for Simonton, Sunrise, Okna, Soft-lite, or Gorell.
Also find an independent pro with 10 years minimum experience .
I tell my customers to $200 per window. If we can do it for less we will.

One quote could be as insert install and the other could be new construction stlye( jamb extension, stool and perimeter casing).
I doubt that is the difference. I bet we are looking at one low bid and one high bid and two drastically different products.

You might also consider looking at Soft-lite, Gorell, Simonton, or Sunrise.

So you have found two good installers, now the product.
Do you like the look of both , can you afford both, what is the thermal performance of both and what do you want it to be?
Answering those question will help you decide.
Both products will do a great job for you.

Do you see the bottoms or think they affect the operation? What does your contract say about the produ...

Where are you located?
What are your existing windows: age, matreial, style? What is the exterior siding?
How old is the house?
What type of material do you want to use for the new windows, options like color, grids, glass package, screens, etc?
Answers to all the above will help us help u.

My son-in-law Greg runs the DFW area for me. The air space can be sealed around the window opening. I do not know if I think it is needed, it will not hurt and probably has a benefit worth considering, but that would be a good discussion with Randy, also would like to see some test data on the method.
