Re: Brands to consider for Denver Colorado
I've just read through your thread as I live in Boulder and have been doing a similar deep dive. Did you decide on the Kolbe window? Which Denver showroom did go to? Were you able to purchase them directly and find a qualified installer? Thank you for your helpful thread. While I have considered al...

Re: Renewal by Anderson vs Gilkey
Different products. Is the Andersen nice, sure. Are there better products at a slightly better price point, also yes. If he will cover your area...I'd definitely give the folks at HomeSealed a call. As far as negotiating with the guys at Andersen, not sure I have heard of too many folks getting a be...

Re: 270 vs 360, both green?
The two coat Low-e (i.e. 272 or 270) does have less of a green hue to it.
Not sure how they "measure" that green hue, but maybe Oberon (Glass engineer) will chime in.

Re: Okna Starmark Evo Gut Check
Different window construction and performance. Don't get me wrong, the Restorations is MI's flagship product, but it doesn't have material construction, performance, and look of the Evo. Did you attempt to go back to the previous dealer? Any feedback from them? You are not comparing apples to apples...

Re: Very large replacement project
WoW - Safe to say FG is off the table, just came back from the best rated Marvin installer in the area. 190K🤮 I’ve had some of the vinyl believers tell me the technology has improved to the point where 25 years for a high end vinyl window is very much in the realm of realistic. Fair to say Okna lon...

Re: Nashville TN- Windows
Ideally it goes in from the exterior. They can probably cap back to your existing trim as I am guessing they didn't cap inside the storm window.

Don't see it listed on the site which is usually and indication of performance.WindowsDirectCinci wrote: ↑Thu Mar 07, 2024 6:58 amI would make sure you verify the air leakage rate on the Lindsay windows. The window has some nice features but Last time I checked the air infiltration rate was pretty bad

Re: Nashville TN- Windows
If you currently have storms, I tell folks all the time that even though there will be a reduction in the size of the glass in the window, the overall opening will feel larger with the deletion of the storm window. That is the honest to goodness feedback we get and it makes sense when you look throu...

Re: Sound dampening not up to spec
Figured as much being in Florida. Easiest way to kind of check the attic is go into a closet or a room without a window and shut the door. If you still hear the noise, check the ceiling plane. If that isn't it...then the window isn't sealing well and leaking a bunch of air. Simonton's "ARE NOT&...

Re: Nashville TN- Windows
We usually price by the opening as well. You want a full tear out because of the trim or are you concerned about glass loss?
Provia is decent, but not a comparable to the Okna in this case and definitely not the Starmark.

Re: Very large replacement project
I will respectfully, and scientifically, disagree. A two coat Low-e is going to reduce solar transmission quite a bit over clear glass and there will be some appreciable tint increase going from clear to Low-e two coat. You will see at least a 10% reduction in visible light as well as a decent reduc...

Re: Nashville TN- Windows
What are the installation details. What kind of window is coming out?
Prices 3 years ago are...well...far away from where we are now. Sadly.
Probably safe to assume that the RBA quote is 30% higher if what I have seen on their end holds true out by you.

Re: Very large replacement project
Post some pictures of the damage. Where is it showing? Most times, an insert is more than fine if done properly and most of the trim rot around most wood windows is addressed. If the leak and rot is pervasive, you will need to identify where it is from and how to fix it. Might still not require full...

Re: Very large replacement project
It can't hurt. I would call the guys at HomeSealed and ask for Brandon first. If they will travel for the job, that would be my default go to. Don't know the other dealer, but I do know Brandon's operation.
