Hardcoat Low E

I checked a few websites - the only manufacturer with a hardcoat Low E that I could find was Pella. The NFRC had mentioned Marvin, but Marvin's own website didn't mention it. I would think that it may be available from Marvin and others as a a special order. Pella is a unique case. They use a Low E2...

Ice Issues

Sox Fan I'm going to throw a lot of statistics at you to address your issues regarding ice buildup on your windows. Keep in mind that these stats are based on a worst-case scenario of 0° outside and 70° inside, which even in northern climates seldom occurs. :!: You mentioned that the house was...

Low E Blinds

FenEx, have you ever heard of blinds with a Low- E coating on then? Pella's between-glass blinds I think are still available with a Low E coating. For years they had white and Low E (which was a gold color). However, last year they changed to 10 colors, and the Low E gold-colored blind was relabell...

What to do?

Given that you have a budget that you'd like to stick to, your choice of Kolbe Ultra is a logical one. I applaud you for not simply going with the lowest price. As for the two remaining bids that you're waiting for, Marvin and Norco, Marvin would be by far the better choice. I know of numerous build...

High SHGC

There are numerous companies that make a high SHGC product. If you don't get Low E glass, your SHGC will be pretty high (in the neighborhood of .49 to .55). With a Low E coating (it seems that is your intention), hardcoats usually are around .39-.41 and softcoats around .32-.33, sometimes even lower...

One of the main things you will have to decide is what material you want the windows to be made out of. You mentioned that you don't want the windows to lessen the "character" of the house. That means aesthetics - how they look. Everyone has a different perspective on what they find attrac...

Re: anderson window grilles

Is there another company that makes wood grilles for anderson double hung window? Or, a discount site? There are many "local" companies that will make or distribute generic custom window grilles to fit Andersen and other brands. To get grilles like Andersen's however, you would have to go...
