Re: Soft-Lite Elements or Simonton 9800

Aesthetically....I give a very slight nod to the 9800.

Everything else (performance, structure, air infiltration, U-Factor, etc) the Elements trumps the 9800.

Re: Tough questions...any answers?

VA Yank...you are not in my marketplace so this is not a conflict of interest. I told you that you can look me up and call me if you want to discuss your project over the phone. I will likely have most of the same answers that the other well informed posters have on here. Perhaps I can answer your q...

Re: Excalibur vs. Preservation by Alside

They leak along the jambs and the sill. I need to replace the bulb seal at the bottom and install the "energy tabs" in the corners. Not happy about the bulb seal replacement after 3 years.

Re: Excalibur vs. Preservation by Alside

Both the Preservation (re-badged Sheffield) and the Sheffield are leakers in my opinion as well.

I have 10 Sheffields that we installed in my Father-n-Laws home about 3 years ago that leak like a sieve.

Re: Excalibur vs. Preservation by Alside

Bates...I think they have gone to the Climatech 2 with the double low-e to get to that number. Window becomes very dark with how much they have to put on but that is the only way that the Excalibur can get there.

Re: I'm confused...which is "best"?

I wouldn't take it like that Window-Guy. He was being facetious. Lets be honest, most of the bigger companies out there that employ these type tactics, also have the largest advertising budgets and get access to the most customers...and in return leave customers with this type of experience.

Re: Single Hung vs. Sliders please advise & rate manufacturers

A single hung will probably leak less air as sliders are usually the most leaky of the windows out there.

I would imagine that one large 2-lite slider would be cheaper than 2 mull single hungs.

You are the customer my friend. Tell them they need to do what they need to do in 1 hour of less. At the end of the hour...ask them to leave. They will speed up.

I don't really know of anyone in Richmond off the top of my head.

Feel free to call me with questions.

Re: I'm confused...which is "best"?

Performance meaning U-Factor, SHGC, Air leakage, CR, VT, Etc. Best thing to do check the web on some of those manufacturers and get some more quotes. You will likely here some conflicting information and have to cipher through what is actually accurate. Feel free to post up additional questions on t...

Re: NEW $1500 TAX CREDIT ON WINDOWS

We aren't talking about $1000 a hole and I have specifically seen Window4U criticize people that are trying to get that. There is, however, a huge jump in price between a window that has basic low-e/argon and an Intercept spacer to a window that is equip with a Super Spacer and triple pane glass wit...
