Re: anyone know GERKIN windows??

I have installed their Rhino aluminum series but only a few of their vinyl windows.I have only installed their vinyl casement windows. It seems to be very well built, has very good air infiltration #'s.They are limited on options such as glass and colors.I installed them for a company that also sells ...

Re: American Craftsman

Well, all windows leak even when installed properly. The air infiltration #'s are easily obtainable if you choose to look them up.I offer customers more then 1 brand of window to choose from,it's their choice.Their are alot of windows that I would rate below the Silverline 9500 series and of course al...

Re: American Craftsman

Silverline has decent air infiltration #'s which I would assume were based on a propperly shimmed window.I was just noting a problem that I see on alot of homeowner installs.Air infiltration has never been an issue for me.I usually shim all of my windows,so I wouldn't say you need to be a surgeon,ju...

Re: American Craftsman

You saw the air infiltrating? These windows are more prone to air filtration then others if not shimmed well because of the way they are weatherstripped.I see this alot with this window because of poor install.I have never had a service call do to warping or bowing, nor have I noticed it.Doesn't mean ...

Re: American Craftsman

It seems that if I ever get any stress cracks it either happens during shipping or shortly afterwards. This is not a Silverline thing but just something I have noticed with other companies as well.I may be wrong but shipping can be hard on things.Silverline doesn't lock there sash's during shipping e...

Re: American Craftsman

I actually installed Silverline not American Craftsman but all the same.It was offered as a base window to compete with other companies base window offerings.I would point out to clients that this is a base window and offer other brands as an upcharge. Most people that I deal with consider vinyl as a...

Re: American Craftsman

I have installed many and the service calls are virtually non existant. The last one I had was for the release latches on the lower sash.It was done in under a minute. It has been well over a year since the last service call before it.Most of my service calls comes from stress cracks that don't show u...

Re: American Craftsman

I was just comparing them since they were at Home Depot side by side and did not see the obvious flaws that were pointed out.As I said, the Simonton was beefier. It is obvious that the Simonton on display is a nicer window. The Silverline on display was a 9500 series and I am not sure what model the S...

Re: American Craftsman

I was at Home Depot yesterday and checked out their Siverline and Simonton display since they were side by side. The welds looked to be of the same quality with the exception of the interior side of the Simonton's sash welds. The Simonton sash welds look to be ground down after they are welded. This lo...

I think there should be more details on the install before commenting on pricing.

Re: best replacement window company in nj

I do agree alot of things are not what they appear to be,hence recommending a blower door test.I also meant to point out that these services can be had at a very low cost through your local utility company and some local agencies.Their is alot of help in our county, espcially doe "low" inc...

Re: best replacement window company in nj

The agency that I was speaking of have field experience. They also have funds available for window replacements as well if needed. They also have insulation specialist contractors that they use and they use a blower door test before and after they insulate.I know some of these people personally and th...

Re: Rotten Seat Board on Bow Window

You could possibly save alot of money if you put in a non bay/bow window and put in a casement/picture/casement combo.

Re: best replacement window company in nj

Wrong or right ,I would reccomend an energy audit first(maybe by someone who isn't going to profit from there results).I do realize that windows in poor condition and with obvious flaws will be big leakers.
