Re: Okna for sound abatement in South Jersey

Better to do it once...than twice.

Okna does have a sound control glass option that is as good at the laminated glass and less expensive. It's been tested in their 600 series window and I think is available in that series as well as the 800 and EVO.

Re: Replacing the glass from another identical window

Fixed panels are either a movable panel that is "pinned" in place or a direct set like a single hung window. Can you post up some pictures? Either way, should be doable. Either way, if you are trying to buy some time or use some of your neighbor's sashes to extend the life of your openings...

Re: Advice on Windows in Denver

Weird how they have that last one on there and begs the question as to what they do to it in order to cut the air leakage by 75%. Now...that said, they are also running a unit that is nearly 40% larger (4' by 6' double hung is a whopper) that will artificially depress the air infiltration number, bu...

By a qualified pro, I wood...haha pun intentional.

But seriously, like the two qualified pros above me, done right, it's a great addition and makes for a tighter and more weatherproof opening.

Re: vinyl DH window air leakage

Indeed, as HomeSealed said above. You can add a bit of weatherstripping window to a good window and further tighten up what is the bypass point where multiple surfaces meet and interlock. As alluded to, this point is generally the weakest in the assembly as it is the interface of multiple moving poi...

I think for the narrowest profile and the stability in that narrower profile, the DY is probably the better option for you.

Re: Tax credit eligibility based on energystar.gov list or just by the requirements? (OKNA)

Easy enough to just have the dealer indicated the model and performance data on your receipt. That document, saved with your records, should be sufficient to justify the tax credit.

If you want to go a step further, you can keep the NFRC labels from the windows with your other records.

Re: Okna vs Others - Windows and Sliders Northern Connecticut

Just looking at the two top line estimates and do the math comparative there....

The Okna 800 is easily worth the 12% premium over the Alside product. Just looking at that comparison, pretty easy math and I don't want to seem flippant with your $7,000.

I'm in South Jersey, Camden County. Does AGM service that area and how do I contact them? Should I make a new thread? Give Mike a "ring". He services that section of NJ and is one of the longtime contributors to this forum and someone that I have trusted with my own work. mikethewindowguy...

Not at all. AAMA recognizes the retrofit installation as an approved option. If the installer is competent, you should NEVER have an issue.

Re: Why is my window brown between panes?

That sashlite "idea" looked so good on paper from the minimization of parts...but the reality is that the failure rate on that glass is supremely high. Depending on how many you have replaced right now, plan on a bunch more.

Mike...are they even still around.

Re: Glass Repair & Glazing at Clarksville, TN

Most of your glass repair companies are going to be local while some of them will be national chains. Seems to me that many of the national chains have come and gone as well.

Talk to friends and neighbors.

What does the repair consist of?

+1

If the binary is down to that, the feedback on Anlin seems to be good.
