Re: Replacing Vinyl single hung with built in j channel

It's good to hear from you all! Thanks for taking the time to type all that out Mike. Arthritis in my hands last night was stopping me from typing a bunch. Feel better today. I can tell by the ache that we are in for another cold spell. Rain and snow until Sunday with highs in the 40's. I'm tired of...

Re: hollow block

You may want to check and see if they used "Bond Beams" in the wall. In most cases every fourth layer will be solid. If your pouring into holes above the beam expecting it to flow all the way down you may have issues. You can use an electricians pull wire to slide in the opening and see ho...

Re: Very large storefront windows to be replaced

Almost all store front windows are Insulated Glass Units (IGU). Some of the older glass may be 1/4" laminated or tempered glass. In most cases the largest pieces they will make would be 10' x 10'. TLH is on the button when it comes to a local glass house doing the replacement. They have the too...

Re: confused after first presentation

Sean, The 15% off if you sign today is used by most of the larger businesses. It's used with the other discount sales tactics like putting a sign in the front yard, using your house as a "Showpiece" for new customers to look at, special deal for houses that are blue or on a corner, you get...

Re: Replacement windows not shimmed

Randy I think you have taken in to much of that lead dust. Good one though. I've come to the conclusion that I should be clinically dead any ways. Back in the early 80's I worked the commercial side of the fence installing fire doors and hardware. The company I worked for specialized in hospital rem...

Thank you Randy, I appreciate the support. These kind of posts from those who really don't do their homework always make me laugh. XxDuaniacxX, Randy has pointed out that my post from was five years ago. If your going to post on this website you should take the time to investigate the people you cal...

Re: Replacement windows not shimmed

You guys are killing me! There is only "ONE" answer for this question. Building code has perfectly stated that all manufactures "Installation Guidelines" are code. Meaning the windows must be installed accordingly. If the guidelines require shims during the installation, then the...

Re: spontaneous breakage

No disrespect fenestrationman but it's all about "Barometric Pressure". that's why Skydawg asked where the customer lived. mschaube, Most Insulated Glass Units (IGU) are filled with Argon or Krypton gas. They are both "Inert Gases" and are used quite regularly in the industry. Ar...

Re: what is the difference between argon and krypton gas?

Krypton only works in smaller area's. If the space it occupies is larger than 1/4" it's worthless. This is why we only see it in triple glazed units. If you aren't getting triple glazed windows get the argon/CO2.

Re: Proper Installation of Vinyl double hung replacement window.

I agree with the others. We have two ways to install an insert (or Pocket Replacement), "Inside Out" or "Outside In". If the interior has stops that will not remove easily or the dreaded stop that is part of the frame and runs behind the casing, we'll choose to install from the o...

Re: Gonna put this on the main board.... Coil colors

Try and find a distributer who uses American Coil out of Georgia. They have over 300 colors. I get mine through Lowes, but you have to know the color number or they'll get the wrong one for sure. If you know the color I can cross reference it and see what works best. I can then get you the proper sk...

Come on boys, the Pella Designer series was revamped two years ago and I think they are great. When they made their change the Engineers called us boys in the field to make sure their ideas were going to work. I almost fell over dead when they called me. Never in a million years would I expect an En...

Re: Fiberglass windows for 4-season deck enclosure

To much thought going down here. I'm still stuck at "tangible feeling of a draft". My Infinities (all doublehungs that meet egress) don't leak anything. Blower door test rated under 2% air infiltration. If you have a noticeable draft there's a defect in the windows or the installation. Mos...

Re: Need Help with New Window Problem

Fish, Go outside and inspect the window (closed & locked) under the sash. There should be a rubber sweep hanging off the sash that should seal it to the frame. If there is any gap under that sweep you'll get some air infiltration. We install them all the time and always have to shim the bottoms ...
