Re: Sash Replacement or window replacement inserts?
I was thinking of doing the install myself and just purchasing the product. Based on what I'm reading, it seems like the vinyl replacement windows are the best option. Also, I'm assuming I wouldn't need a storm with those, correct? That's correct... No need for a storm, and at $200 -$300 window onl...

Re: Sash Replacement or window replacement inserts?
Some guys have decent experience with sash-packs, personally I've never seen an install that I've liked. I've done a few and decided they weren't for me. I've seen many more that are in need of replacement after 5-10 years because they are all out of whack. I guess its like anything else, a good ins...

Re: Opinions on Weathershield Visions 3000 windows?
I am not a big fan of the Weathershield vinyl product. It really seems to be an afterthought like the vinyl offerings of the other wood manufacturers.... I would also recommend talking to Windows on Washington though. Very knowledgable and ethical guy. :D .... Sunrise and Gorell are 2 nice products ...

Re: Champion vs Feldco vs Stanek vs Wasco vs ?
You sure can. Allied building products in West Allis sells PlyGem and Softlite, Richards building supply in West Allis sells Softlite and Gorell. If you call Allied, ask for Mark and tell him that Brandon sent you.

Re: Champion vs Feldco vs Stanek vs Wasco vs ?
They are pretty comparable so I wouldn't say that price match is anything special... With either company you are paying a premium because they "make" their own windows, even though they only assemble the parts produced by other companies. There may be something to be said for controlling t...

Re: American Craftsman
You don't need to "feel" air blowing in for there to be infiltration/exfiltration.... I understand what you are saying about some consumers wanting cheaper products, but you can get a decent product for not much more than a Silverline/Am craft. Secondly, the people who just want the absolu...

Re: American Craftsman
You saw the air infiltrating? These windows are more prone to air filtration then others if not shimmed well because of the way they are weatherstripped.I see this alot with this window because of poor install.I have never had a service call do to warping or bowing, nor have I noticed it.Doesn't mean...

Re: American Craftsman
What would you call a "shipping related" service call just out of curiosity... You mentioned earlier that you would get stress cracks a few days after installation, I don't see how that could possibly be shipping related??? Regardless, you are entitled to your opinion and I respect that. I...

Re: American Craftsman
I had installed a lot of Alside Excalibur and Sheffields. I personally think those are both upgrades over most of American Craftsman's offerings, however I won't sell them anymore due to all the issues that I had including stress cracks, bowed sashes, etc... I, nor anyone else is here to tell you wh...

Re: Champion vs Feldco vs Stanek vs Wasco vs ?
A couple brands that I highly recommend are PlyGem and Gorell. Softlite and Sunrise are nice products as well, although the the Sunrise dealer (biggest one anyway) in our area really pushes the old "high pressure", high-price, sales deal.

Re: American Craftsman
A lot of windows look "fine" or "good enough", until you install hundreds or thousands of them and wait a year or two until all the service calls come rolling in. That's my own personal experience with a brand that I'd consider mediocre, but better that American Craftsman.

Re: Champion vs Feldco vs Stanek vs Wasco vs ?
Roughly $700 per window for a white tax credit double-pane window isn't the best deal you'll find by far, but it isn't highway robbery either... Like I said, both are fine windows and fine companies, so I'm sure you'll be happy with your purchase either way.

Re: Champion vs Feldco vs Stanek vs Wasco vs ?
How about interior/exterior colors and glass packages? ... Might be a tad on the high end (but not outrageous) for a white double-pane that meets tax credit requirements, but if they are woodgrain interiors, colored exteriors, triple pane,etc..., that would make it a bit more reasonable. Do those pr...

Re: Champion vs Feldco vs Stanek vs Wasco vs ?
My take on the companies mentioned: All of them sell a decent product, ironcally I'd rate Champion the lowest even though they are priced the highest. I have not heard many great reviews of Feldco. Stanek and Wasco are both fine companies with a fine product. Whether or not you are getting a great d...

Re: Okna vs Thermal Industies
I do not have personal experience with Okna, however my nderstanding from other pros is that it is very good. The Thermal Industries is a decent, mid-grade choice IMO as long as the price is right.
