Oberon is wealth of information and I learned a ton from reading his posts in the past. Here is a little blurb on what I hijacked from the web. Sound Control Principles What is Sound? Sound, which is defined as any thing the ear can hear, originates from something making vibrations. These vibrations...

Lamination does increase the weight of the window quite a bit. No point in having extra strong glass and a potential weak spot at the sash rails.

Short answer...yes, I would. Especially considering it is about an 8 dollar option.

window is cracked. Can just the sash be replaced while leaving
window in place ?
Yes or at minimum, the window can be reglazed and leave the frame intact.

Re: cold weather installation

Is there a limit to how cold it can be outside for installations ? Caulking is usually not done under 50 degrees, The limits of temperature are well below 50 degrees and if the sealant/caulking that you are using is a chemical/solvent based product and does not cure by moisture, you are good to use...

Yes. Didn't you just love that little video at the end...??? It makes me laugh just thinking about it.

I am guessing you were there?

You guys all talk out of both sides of your mouth. On one side Schuco is a premium vinyl window and on the other side it is a scam company that lies and will not support their product. What I was trying to say is that I believe I am better off buying the Schuco windows that *MAY* possible need some...

windowonwashington, I agree with you 100%. However- there is a fed mandate which requires us( the contractor) to relay the gov't info to the homeowner. The fine is up to $10,000 per occurance if we don't. A homeowner can burn a contractor if they don't like em and we have been thinking we should ha...

In 3-5 years, heck 10 years what is the worst thing that can possibly happen? Something goes wrong with a window and parts are not available? Its not the end of the world, I would have to get a new window. You said something very interesting: "The word that comes to mind is extortion when desc...

Why doesn't everybody in here actually take a few seconds before firing off more posts and understand that this is the impression that we leave with the customers. Window4U and Fenex are two very well respected posters and previous Schuco proponents. It also appears that both have very different imp...

No offense JScott, but to the extent that this person will be "reconstructing" the opening, the exposure should be minimal if not non-existent. Like Bill said, install outside in and leave the trim stops in place and the exposure should be minimal if at all. Most lead dust is usually liber...

Well until one of the dealers answers my simple question I have no reason to doubt Schuco. I am not a dealer, however, their inability to ship parts, process orders properly, and deliver product when promised has more than frustrated their otherwise loyal dealers. I have heard countless stories of ...

What kind of existing windows are in the home. If they are wood windows than the disturbance of the paint would be minimal at best and there should be very little concern regarding the airborne lead containing paint. You could always buy a lead test kit at one of the home improvement stores and test...

thank you kind sir.

As Window4U posted, you can see that the two outermost chambers are contained and therefore could accommodate a foam fill.

The Starmark with a foam filled main frame has tested out at .15 U-Factor. Not sure if this information is yet validated by NFRC but it should be very soon. Starmark is not a multi-chambered product, therefore does not have foam-filled frames. Instead, it is cellular PVC, a solid matter with no roo...
