Re: Gorell 5300 vinyl replacement windows Argon, triple pane

Depends where you are located but $800 is about as high as triple pane windows are going in today's market.

Also really depends on what "minor" frame work is included?

Re: Simonton, Sunrise, Sheffield (Price quotes inc)

The air leakage rate on the Simonton window is not bad, just very average. It is also worth noting that I have seen Simonton windows and their performance stays very consistent. Other windows have a tendency to loosen up over time and go from less than average to outright horrible. I don't think you...

Re: Simonton, Sunrise, Sheffield (Price quotes inc)

Wow...you have done you research. Can't really go wrong with any of those windows. The meeting rail reinforcement in the Simonton should not cost you more than $7 to $10 a window. $7 is list price on it in the book last time I checked. Soft-Lite window has the best combination of performance from th...

Re: RELACEMENT WINDOWS????

My recommendations for you are the same for anyone else that is in your boat. Figure out what you want the window to look like aesthetically. -Frame width -Color preferences Then look at performance. -Thermal data -Air infiltration Then consider materials. -Fiberglass -Vinyl -Wood and wood clad How ...

Re: Anybody have experince with Simonton Profinish windows?

Depending the the width of the brickmold than yes. That being said, you will not have enough room to tape the head and the sides now that the siding is on so the benefit to the nailing fin is kind of moot. The best part of the nailing fin is the water management ability when you can tape and flash. ...

Re: Starmark

Starmark is a cellular composite window that is going to be a beefier extrusion and have better Design pressure and structural data.

I think it is better looking as well. What is the air, thermal, and structural data on the Gorell?

Re: Replacement or New Construction

Replacement windows are typically stronger than new construction but not as a result of being a replacement, usually because new construction windows are complete garbage. I would rip out that entire opening and go with a replacement quality window with a nailing fin. You can get them complete with ...

Re: Serious Materials????

Their R-11 window is a triple glazed window with a layer of heat mirror in each space. Total overkill but I appreciate their effort.

Isn't available in a double hung anyway.

Re: Serious Materials????

There is no identical window to my knowledge, however, there are several windows that have U-Factor down in the mid teens (R-6+) that are aggressively priced and will not take 30+ years to payback.

See what they will charge you for replacement sashes...you might be better suited to just invest in new windows altogether at that point.

Re: Spacer update?

Long Term Durability are the key words - that being said it is Super Spacer - dual seal, flexible, and a proven track record - the TruSeal products are made of thermoplastic materieal (butyl) - once that material is pressed in during the pumping of a window is has no ability to come back to its for...

Re: Compare 3 vinyl window companies

You will need to post specifics about which lines from each company you are considering to get a more accurate evaluation. That being said, Silverline and MW have previously turned out some very sub-standard products and I would be very suspect of any product they released as premium. If a company h...
