This is coming down to a matter of preference. If you like the Pella Impervia window, feel comfortable with the local dealer, and like the price, go for it. As to the in-house installers versus subcontractors, I wouldn't let that factor into your decision at all. The best window installers usually p...

After having spent a couple of months researching these windows, I've found their all expensive and missing the boat as to what features they could incorporate into their products to make them outstanding. They have the ultimate building material and then they use things like the old spiral balance...

Houston is a unique market, I think. Here, single pane aluminum windows with plastic glazing bead is prevalent, and the 9800 interior edging looks a lot like the plastic glazing bead to us. Plus the plastic lift handles seem kind of cheap. I do like the triple perimeter weatherstripping, and the bal...

On the visible light transmittance, the triple glazed is much lower because two of the glass panes have Low-E. Since you say you are in a mild climate, you could request a triple glazed unit, with only one Low-E coating and keep a higher VT. I'm not advocating triple glazed over double glazed for no...

The Kensington window is going to be their heavy hitter. I don't know much about the quality of the product, but it is usually high priced. The Alside Sheffield is a very good window, and is even better when upgraded to the Super Spacer. The UltraMax is almost identical, but with a pocket sill, whic...

For what it's worth, I prefer the 5500 to the 9800. If you upgrade the 5500 to the Super Spacer with the 1" IG, and upgrade to the reinforced meeting rail (about $50.00 total), you get a really good window. Most of my customers prefer the appearance of the 5500.

One other thing, while Simonton makes some good windows, the ProFinish single hung is not one of them. It may be an adequate window for new construction, but not for retrofit. I would also encourage you to request a quote through this site. Your chances of getting a knowledgeable professional are ve...

Heat Mirror

Let's review. In your first posting on heat mirror, you stated "I simply cannot find a website where folks are complaining about Heat Mirror failure. The most Heat Mirror problems I've ever found are is this forum and the majority of those are "I think I remember hearing" or "I s...

What happened to TAH? He was really hot on telling everyone how great heat mirror is, and now that several posters have actually described their real life experiences with the product, TAH has vanished.

PAL locks

I agree with Windows4U, avoid the PAL locks. I quit offering them months ago as well. They also look odd from the outside looking in because the receiver and the lock are not flush at the top. The cam locks look more like a wood window anyway.

I agree completely TAH. In my experience, homeowners who would seriously consider doing business with Window World, Clear Choice Windows, and other such bottom feeders, are not really customers that I would generally connect with anyway. As a general rule, I think that most of the business Window Wo...

It can be difficult to find a good window company here in Texas since we don't have any kind of contractor oversight or licensing. As to the windows you have looked at, they are bottom of the barrel products, and my opinion on Home Depot and Lowe's is the same as most on this board, stay away. They ...

Simonton

The Impressions 9800 series is the same .072 as the other windows mentioned by Simonton.

While I haven't seen the Anlin or the Polybau windows, I like the Simonton 5500 with the optional Super Spacer, or the Impressions 9800.

Good luck to you.
