Re: Gorell 5100 vs. Simonton 5050 upgraded
I've never seen or heard of a gorell window being sold any where near that cost;its shockingly low. that is just so cheap i don't know how the contracor can make any money. 10,000 is a killer deal for the okna 500 series as well. if the gorell contractor knows what he is doing i would jump on it. pe...

Re: Spacers
I am thinking he is referring to the secondary seal; PIB (Polyisobutylene rubber). this is a very common seal but it is NOT THE SPACER. ask what the actual core is made of. is it foam? is it stainless steel? is it a poly carbonate? is it a tin plated alloy(most common) and is made by PPG.

Re: Replacement Windows
you obviously went to home depot and lowes. you will not find anything near quality there . pella make a horrible vinyl indow(very low quality). american crafsman and atrium are just as bad. you need to expand your search if you are planning on staying in your home for more than a few hours.(sarcasm...

fwiw. if a window gap is too small, then only caulk is used. cannot use foam,it simply will not work. it will come right out.

Re: How to choose a contractor and questions about brands
you already know the Gorell dealer does a good install and that Gorell is a great product. why cut corners; do the install in stages and get guaranteed quality. this wy you don't break the proverbial budget.

Re: Is it OK to install replacement windows without frames?
when you say Frame, are you referring to exterior casing?do you have vinyl siding? i am guessing they did an "L CAP" which is fine.i am sure they used some aluminum around the outer perimeter, perhaps you don't see it though. you probably have J Channel around your windows. if you are talkin...

Re: Father inlaw- says to do windows our selfs.
save your family alot of grief and hire a pro that will do it correctly. that 400 bucks will turn into a heck of alot more when you need to have a pro who does this on a daily basis rip out something your father in law installed because he is trying to be helpful. not worth the aggrevation.

Re: Full Frame Install- Always necessary?
was the perimeter inusulated on the inside(if inside install)? were the weight pockets insulated? was the outside sealed? was the sill insulated? i don't care if you built a new house and got windows from scratch. if the install was poor, you will get drafts. new construction is only warranted(in my ...

Re: New Window question---is this normal
were quality windows installed? i have seen (many times) new windows installed correctly but because of poor design, the new windows leak air. not saying its not an installation issue at all, just bringing up another possibility.

that would be great. up until now i never gave PGT any thought; always just viewed them as a impact window.
