Re: Replacement windows Gorell Timeless or Stanek

could be kevlar or pvc reinforcement. keep in mind a pocket sill will help render a higher dp rating. I believe its "fibrex" or some type of "proprietary" fiberglass variation..... Note to consumers: when somebody uses terms like "proprietary", it is typically a good i...

Re: which would you choose

I'd add a terrible interlock design. I don't think I've ever met a sheffield/ultra maxx where you didn't have to hold the upper sash while you close the lower or it pulls it down.... I saw a lot of problems with oversized or bowed sashes, incorrectly placed locks, etc.

Re: Replacement windows Gorell Timeless or Stanek

Those are both fairly decent choices. I like the Gorell Timeless a lot, especially if you are looking for a slim frame to maximize glass space. They also have some excellent glass packages and a nice offering of options... The Stanek window is a solid performer as well. Personally, I prefer the ide...

Re: seaway v. Park avenue

From Park Ave website: "Fully-welded and weeped sills make our double hung vinyl replacement..." I'm just not a fan of a weeped sill whether it has a snap-in sloped piece or not. There is a reason why most of the top lines don't use it... and FYI, they have a few different "snap-in&qu...

Re: seaway v. Park avenue

Can't think of an installation company in your area, however Sunrise does make a fine product. On product alone, I do like it better than the Park Ave, especially the Vanguard or Restorations, but you'll still want to be mindful of the installation company, price, etc.

Re: Marvin Infinity vs. Starmark

Two superb choices. The Starmark should have the advantage in performance, however both are very highly regarded by most if not all.... I do have to say that if your primary objectives are value, performance, and durability, you might think about getting a quote or two on some high end vinyl product...

Re: seaway v. Park avenue

PA is somewhat of an outdated design with its pocket sill, but that is one of the better prices I've seen on it, especially with krypton. You could definitely do worse, although you might also do better.

Re: Replacement windows Gorell Timeless or Stanek

So what will deliver more tangible results to a consumer, a DP 70 vs 50, or a u-value of .17 vs .21??? Folks who post nothing but completely biased information have 0 credibility with other pros here, and I'm sure that consumers see through that as well. Stanek is an "assembler" of a decen...

I'd highly recommend against any modification that would void your warranty, especially if there are solutions that would not.

Re: What upgrades really matter

Wow has some great info there... Essentially, anytime you get better insulated glass you will get a higher CR number = less chance for condensation. The other two parts are whether or not you have other issues causing all of the moisture, and also the cost of the upgrades, which can vary by dealer.

You'd be surprised, a lot of young people think that they look dated, especially those going for more of a "contemporary" look.

Re: need advice: replace with picture window or bay window?

Its really just about personal preference. A bay would gain you some usable space for knick-knacks, etc, and make the room feel larger, but it is really up to the preference of a future buyer as to whether or not it would add value. Many people like bay windows, some do not.
