Re: Vinyl failing on new windows

I'm going through he builder because that is what the builder requires for all claims in the first year of ownership as part of their warranty. A logical first step. The known defect is easily proven because of the date that my neighbor was told about their windows and told they would be painted is...

Re: Vinyl failing on new windows

The builder has a warranty. I know I posted the window company warranty but the builder is still on the hook for the first year. For what? Did the builder make the windows? No. The manufacturer did. I'm not a fan of worthless builder warranties in general, but you are barking up the wrong tree. The...

Re: Window Replacement Frustration - Am I too Picky?

There's an old saying something like : two blind guys and one armed dwarf make one competent installer, but if that is the case, your install crew was one blind guy short. Or maybe the dwarf had no arms at all.
This. is. a. mess.

Re: just replacing the window glass instead of the entire window.

That second photo of Randy’s looks like a really bad option. That Looks like a window with J channel built in without fins, don’t think I seen one of those before. Installing a finless window that has the frame sticking out beyond the drainage plane/ sheathing would be a big no no . I think they ma...

I agree about the bottom of the barrel choices, drop them. Which Sunrise model is quoted? Are those 17 single windows, or are there doubles and triples etc. That can mess up the math. The Starmark is great window and worth a premium for sure, just depends on how much. The company installing can move...

Re: Polaris Weep Hole Question

Honestly, if it wasn't for the smell not matching, the cat pee is as good a guess as anything else. Its definitely something repetitive since the wood is damaged like that, that doesn't happen from a spill or one time leak. The lack of evidence of water on and in the wall though cast some doubt on a...

Re: just replacing the window glass instead of the entire window.

Sounds like you just described a replacement window installation there Mike. I don't think anyone would argue that a typical pocket has more downsides than a full frame removal, but that doesn't make it invalid or a disservice. That's all I'm saying. Saving 30% and getting your 12 windows installed ...

Re: just replacing the window glass instead of the entire window.

the one guy said if the new window sticks out too much they would just install the windows OVER the existing window sill and drywall instead of cutting back the drywall if needed "Too much work" he says. that was a red flag to me, am I wrong? Seems like they want to do what is fast and co...

Re: Replacement windows in IL

What concerns you about that? Do you ask for the material and labor price at the restaurant? No, that would be stupid. Its stupid here as well. Youre buying an installed service and the price is what it is. Compare one company to the next until your heart is content, but trying to analyze how and wh...

Re: Polaris Weep Hole Question

open the wall above the dark spot on the subfloor. Something isn't right here. I'd expect to see signs of water on that bottom plate if it was running down from the window, not just on the subfloor. That's probably why the guy is saying cat pee. On the next warm day you have, go spray the area with ...

Re: Narrowed down to three choices

triple pane is good depending on where you are located, but I like a pros and cons approach. Not a fan of the guys that only sell it or refuse to sell it at all. polaris tw is pretty nice but i don't like how that company sounds. okna 500 is great. Sl Elite is great too. Like the other guys said it ...

Re: What size window to order?

The guy that is going to install this should be measuring. If its you, and you don't know how to measure it, you shouldn't be installing it.
