Re: window trim wrap
I see what your saying WOW, I just don't trust it personally. I've seen few siding jobs done where I could depend on the j-channel to keep the widow opening dry. In fact, I've seen many window leaks where water was leaking in behind the j and right into the window opening due to lack of a proper dri...

Re: american craftsman 9500 vs pella ThermaStar
They are both subpar imo. I guess if I was forced to choose, I'd say the 9500, but I'd never install even that window for anyone and put my name on it.

Re: window trim wrap
I'm not crazy about running window trim over j-channel at all. I don't see how you can have a proper drip cap (head flashing) when the top of the window trim extends up onto the face of the j-channel . Moisture from behind the vinyl siding would then be directed into the window opening below. I gues...

Re: Installation cost
even an unemployed carpenter is going to charge much more than 100 bucks..thats outrageously cheap for a proper installation. Hiring a cheap installer is like a girl going to Guetamla to get a cheap price on breast implants. nothing good will come out of it and there is ALWAYS a problem down the ro...

Re: Installation cost
Fariways, unfortunately its difficult to come up with a "rule of thumb" for this situation. As you may or may not have experienced, there can be wildly varying prices for comparable products depending on how each company structures their pricing, overhead, markup, etc. I can say that gener...

Re: replacement window newbie with a leak that wont stop
The training referred to for Elements dealers is not "totally worthless and BS" if the installer actually went through the "Installation Masters" training and passed the test. The installer will have a certificate or card that I would ask for as proof. They also have to be re-te...

Re: Two Q's - cutting the returns and chipping
I think Gorell is a 10 yr warrantee. That said painted vinyl is not the best way to colroate an exterior. Foils and cap-stocks are far superior in their color rentention. I was at a house yesterday that had some 16yr ol cap-stocked Plygems in the color brown. They still look really good depsite the...

Re: Soft-Lite windows
I think that the first reaction of ANYONE with common sense is that your post is completely fake and you are a shameless and dishonest representative from BERRY windows. If that is the case, shame on you... The Bainbridge is a decent product, but I highly recommend against purchasing it from a shuck...

Re: Help !! Pella vs Harvey Replacement Windows...
I would say the Harvey will serve you better. I've installed relatively few of them but with good results, and many Pella Prolines with poor results... Most folks criticize only the Pella vinyl lines, however as see more and more of their "higher-end" wood lines, I continue to see nothing ...

Re: Two Q's - cutting the returns and chipping
It depends on manufacturer.. In my experience, those that criticize color coatings only do so because they don't offer them. Gorell offers a 20 yr warranty on theirs, and many others are 20 or at least 10. This would include fading and/or chipping, peeling, etc.

Re: Tax Year?
+1 to Eco's comments. I'd add that to my knowledge, a geothermal system is part of the same 30% credit for 2010, so at this point, in my estimation, your window install is worth $0 ... That being said, as Eco stated, you would be well-advised to consult a tax-professional to determine eligibility.

Re: Recommendations for replacement windows?
+3. Keep shopping... The only that window should approach that price is if it is completely loaded: exterior coating, woodgrain, sdl's, krypton, lead safe, etc... But even with all that, your ROI will be very low in comparison to other items like WOW mentioned.
